Slicer crashing at 15%

Hello, newbie here. I’ve had the A1 Combo for about six months and am finally getting decent prints after some trial and error.

Recently, I’ve been running into a repeatable issue with Bambu Studio. When I download certain 3MF files from MakerWorld, even ones with lots of successful prints and reviews, Bambu Studio will crash and close during slicing about 50% of the time. There’s no error message. When it happens, it almost always crashes on the same file.

I’ve tried adjusting settings, but that hasn’t helped. The only changes that sometimes allow slicing are changing the support type or simplifying the model to reduce the triangle count. Even then, it only works occasionally, and simplifying the model usually degrades print quality.

Some people have suggested this is a PC issue, but I’m skeptical. I’m running a high-end system (Windows 11, i9-14900K, 64 GB RAM, RTX 4090, NVMe storage) that has no stability issues elsewhere, including demanding games. The printer itself works fine, so I’m leaning toward certain 3MF files or a Bambu Studio issue.

Has anyone else seen consistent slicing crashes like this with specific 3MF files? Are there known workarounds or settings that help?

The very fact that you are using a high-end system could be the cause of your problem.

It’s likely the issue is caused not by the sheer number of cores, but by the fact that the processor in question (i9-14900K) has both P-cores and E-cores.

I have nearly as many total threads (28) in my CPU as the i9-14900K (32), but all 14 of my cores are P-cores, instead of the 8P and 16E of the i9-14900K.

I haven’t had any issues slicing files I have downloaded from Makerworld.

Studio does like to hog the cpu when slicing .

i believe the key to slicing is not to make it fight, especially when it comes to complex models , or change its priorty to better than normal ?
