Honestly I’m not sure what the slicer is doing there. It may be fixable as-is, but…
I removed all painting and assigned filament colors directly to the parts. Looks great.
If you enable “develop mode” in Studio settings, you get a new option in “Strength” settings named “Interface shells”. Enabling that for this model cleans the print up a bit more (on the inside bits, so it’s not essential). By itself that may or may not help if you keep the painting as it was, not sure.
But after that, close the paint tool. Then select each part in the object list, on the left, and assign a filament to it (you can r-click that line for a menu, or just hit the digit key on your keyboard corresponding to the filament number).
The result should be like in my screenshot, with each part showing a filament color.
One odd thing… the sliced version puts this gap around the “pate body” and “country strip” parts, and I have no idea where that comes from. Or maybe it’s shrinking the black border area, rather, away from the inside parts. May also be one reason the painting was coming out funky.
Seeing as the parts are already coloured in Studio but the original .3mf file has them all as one filament I’m guessing these parts were imported as a coloured OBJ? This might explain the issue with the odd slicing.
The fix for this issues is to right click and “Fix” the top part. This clears whatever issue there was with the model and you simply need to assign the colors to the objects.
I don’t think there’s any issue with the model, just removing the paint is all it needed to allow filament assignment to work. “Fixing” a model also removes any painting, even if it was already watertight.
As for the import… IDK what the original was, but that new “feature” in studio of painting colors on 3MF imports has been tripping people up left and right, it seems. Though I guess OBJ imports have been like that for a while…? (I don’t really use OBJ.)
In v2.4 I can get colors auto-assigned to 3MF parts (if they had separate materials/colors in CAD), but they’re assigned as filaments, not painted. Which makes a lot more sense to me.
Exactly… the paint overrides any and all filament assignments, which isn’t obvious, and the bucket icon isn’t real obvious in the first place. Keeps messin’ people.
FWIW, most of that odd shift in the original post was also caused by the filament shrinkage setting. Although even with that fixed, the X is still off, and the blue and yellow overlap is sill wonky… and “interface shells” doesn’t help. Assigning filaments is 100% nicer.
Bambu Studio will automatically repair models to a certain degree, but it may be necessary to fix the model using a dedicated service. If you are using Bambu Studio under Windows 10/11, it will have access to Microsoft’s APIs for repairing 3D models through Netfabb. Note that this feature is only supprted on the Windows platform.
