It’s been that way ever since I got into the BBL business in early 2024. My topic is about a recommended repair. So I guess I could post it under General Discussions (about the mini) but Troubleshooting the mini seems more appropriate even though the trouble is behind me and… I don’t have a mini. I have an A1.
I somehow stripped the threads as shown and began tearing things down to see just what all I would need to order or if it was even orderable. Luckily I was able to fix it for free which is preferable of course even if the part was available and I don’t think it is.
I had completely forgotten about this kind of repair. Most of you have probably seen it done countless times on YT videos. And yesterday it saved my bacon. I put the tiniest dab imaginable of baking soda into the stripped hole. And then I dropped in a tiny bit of CA. When it hardened, the screw grabbed existing threads right away, but bottomed out too quickly. Too much soda! Now what?
I chose just the right drill bit and deepened the hole. It took maybe ten revolutions of the drill. I got lucky the first time. Now the screw goes the full depth required to secure the AMS tower and provides for full torque without restripping. Just thought I’d share that with you. NPR-- No Parts Required.
Switch to Orca Slicer, Go to LAN only mode now before they push the updates. Or logoff the printer form your wifi using the interface and use the sd card for print jobs instead of LAN mode. This will prevent Bambu from doing anything with the upcoming update.

The P1S (which I have) is on 1.07.00.00 and that is supposedly the latest. The current A1 firmware is 1.04.00.00. You can check your current revisions. Supposedly they are going to rollout to the X1 first, and then spread the update to other models.
As for the LAN only mode, you will always get help asking about that from numerous people that have been running in that mode for quite a while.
Switching to Orca will not help if you allow the updates as it will be blocked. However, it has many features BL doesn’t, just like Bambu Studio has code Orca doesn’t. Many people here will tell you it is a solid option to Bambu Studio. It’s free, so download it and give it a try. You can always do a post asking for people’s opinion on Orca.
Just be sure to get it from the GitHub and not OrcaSlicer dot net

LAN only mode is the way to go, and don’t use Bambu Studio. If you want to go an extra step, you’d need to set up a wifi network with no internet access. For now, though, that doesn’t seem necessary. But I am keeping open to the option.
One of the advantages with OrcaSlicer comes with the temperature tower test that’s built in. You can run on 3rd party filaments easily to get the temperature setting dialed in. They also have other built in tests BS doesn’t have.

I think you are overreacting, all you have is a P1S and an A1, so this update affects nothing as it is only a BETA for the X1 series printers. Bambu is not going to “take control of your printer”. The update is going to affect those who use LAN mode by making it go through an authentication process with Bambu’s servers. If you don’t even use LAN mode, you already connect to Bambu servers anyway. I don’t get what you are trying to achieve here??
I agree most people on this forum are mad, but all you are doing is making it more inconvenient for yourself. You already use cloud printing. What people are mad about is 1: Bambu forcing things to go through their servers, and 2: not allowing third party software. If you are fine connecting to Bambu servers like you have been, I don’t get why you are doing this.
When you say “I don’t know why you are doing this”… who are you talking to? This whole thing about protesting BBL was going on days, maybe weeks, before I even knew about it. Last night I took down any comments I’d previously posted. I decided to let others figure out whether it’s good or bad. What is that you think I am doing? You apparently see me as some kind of ring leader. Really strange.
There are 2 camps, the ones who claim people being concerned and taking precautions until they see how this plays out are simply prematurely reacting, and those who are upset.
In each one of those camps are the extremes. Those who claim they’ll never buy another printer from Bambu, no matter what, and those who feel they want to keep full control of their printers until all of this plays out and we see what the final results are (the category I fall into).
The other camp has those who say, I think you’re over reacting and need to see what comes of this, and those that accuse anyone of questioning where this is going as nothing but “chicken little claiming the sky is falling”.
You can tell where people belong by their replies. Just take the comments accordingly and answer / ignore them as you see fit.
Getting back on topic about the fix, that was an interesting solution. I hadn’t seen any of the videos you saw on this. That solution would have come in handy at work on a number of occasions for me.
Since I haven’t seen the videos, do any of them recommend tapping the hole after applying the soda and CA glue, or do they just tell you to use the screw to clean up the threads.
I’m not sure whether the hardened soda could tolerate being tapped, Probably not. But, then again, it might. There are lots of fixes out there that people have performed with it. It will have been worth while to me if I only get another year out of it. But at the moment both screws are fully torqued and holding. I’ll do my best to avoid removing the tower so I don’t have to worry about it.
I don’t see you as some ring leader, and I apologize for any confusion. What I meant with my comments is that I think it would be more beneficial for you specifically to not take your printer offline, but obviously this is just my opinion and this is completely your choice. I was trying to say is that since you specifically were using cloud mode before, I don’t think you necessarily lose anything with these updates and I don’t necessarily see what you would gain from taking your printer offline and putting it in LAN mode.
