I have a small print that has a raised disc. This disc needs to be as flat as possible, so I have it printing on the bed. This causes the rest of the part to float. I add normal support and after pulling the support off…it looks nasty.
Looking at each layer it appears to be the “bridge” layer. I see a bridge flow option, but I dont this this will fix the issue. Is there another setting I can change to try and tighten these flow lines together better and make it less sloppy?
What material is this/do you have an AMS? If it’s PLA or PETG and you do, you can use one to support the other. Set the top Z distance to 0mm and they will pop right off of each other once the print is done
I do have an AMS and I am running PLA. I do not have any PETG filament.
I thought if you set the top Z to 0 it would pretty much bond to itself…or are you saying set the top Z to 0 and use both PLA as part and PETG as support?
Yes, that is correct. doing 0mm will give you a flat bottom, and with just a bit of prying the support should pop right off because PLA does not bond to PETG. I don’t think I have the pictures anymore, but I used to do this for printing internal parts for a controller so it would lay flat against the board and the result was great. I would also personally tweak the support settings to make the interface pattern closer together so the part has a good bed to lay on.
PETG and PLA are a great support filament for each other in general, and you only need to use it for the interface layer so you don’t have a ton of filament changes
I think this is kinda of the question I am asking…im not really sure what support settings I should tweek…the only one I really understand is the top Z distance
