Someone Selling My Exclusive Model

This is almost certainly gonna get taken down, but yes, there is a reputation, and yes, it’s well earned. No argument there.

I have a problem with saying “it’s part of their culture” - painting a group of people with a single brush is the textbook definition of stereotyping, and negatively stereotyping an entire group of people is bigotry.

I look at it as say “business culture”, I agree not painting a whole culture. But to be more specific about how they run their companies.

I agree.

I just despise the word “bigot” being thrown around so easily.

We dont need to be 100 percent politically correct, but that is a gross, overused, and misused term.

Exactly how I feel. Mind you, I am struggling with not responding with my own examples of countries I think are full of thieves, so I probably am not the one to really try and pretend I am an shining example of good behaviour!

I bet blackstone are saying the same thing about all the “counterfeit” accessories. Your model has their name and logo on it, right? Or at least something close enough to be recognisable.

edit i am annoyed enough at people “borrowing” intellectual property and then trying to protect their copy, that if it wasn’t almost time for bed, I would report the model to blackstone

Lets say the statement was bigoted.

That works, I edited my original statement. Fair point on calling a person a bigot.

When it comes to copyright, it does not matter if you sell the item or not. Copyright means the IP owner has full control over how that copyright is used. For instance, go ahead and design Mickey Mouse flipping the bird. Then start handing out the design file for free. Get back to us after the Disney attorneys get done explaining to you how it actually works.

See the nuance there? They do not want their brand to be soiled by images of their copyright protected mouse flipping the bird.

They keep sending me stickers to put on everything though. What else am I suppose to do???

I know its not right that they are doing this. Their store has a large collection of 3D printed models, but only 7 reviews for the whole store. They seem to be doing a pretty poor job with just single pictures of most of the 3D prints high prices and are offering 21+ days delivery times, maybe shipping from HongKong?

Its bad that someone is using your design without asking, however is it hurting you? If you have no intent of selling these, it is not impacting your income. Even if you are selling them, they appear to be making such a poor job of it that it would likely not impact you. At $29 it will certainly not prevent someone from downloading the model from MakerWorld for themselves.

For 3D models that I don’t sell, I generally use the Creative Commons license, usually the Share Alike, By Attribution, Non-Commercial. For a few that are fairly generic, I use the CC free license. I still live in hope that someone would ask permission to use one of my models commercially though.

To be positive about this, you might see it as a compliment that someone thinks that the model is worth copying and selling.

My question is have they not built any yet? Why not just take a picture with the copy that they built, not the exact same photo at the same angle with the same exact colors. Oh and some burgers thrown in. I know it’s easier to just grab your photo since they took the design too, but did they even build any? Maybe they farmed it out to China or something?

The “P” in “IP” is “property” - regardless of your (wrong) opinion, the OP owns their IP and can determine how it gets used.

This is a “steal what you can get away with” mentality, and it’s repugnant.
