Spaghetti on prime tower

Is this the new normal? Spaghetti coming out of the “back” corners of the tower?
I have this issue for the first time after the last firmware update my H2D downloaded…

Totally normal, in fact there is a routine when it starts printing on the tower to anchor the ooze strand. It also oozes more with HF nozzles due to the internal geometry not being conducive to retractions.

So I just figured out that this CAN be normal, but I was right in that I hadn’t seen it before. And there is the danger the extra strand catches on the head during a nozzle change, and yanks the tower. (Which has ALSO now happened to me - ruining a print attempt.)
It wasn’t the update for sure.
The black filament (overture pla) above is reacting different than other filaments, oozing (sp?) more than others.
Right now I’m running a long (tall) print in grey and white, and the strands are not appearing. (grey overture, white bambu)
I’m thinking maybe turn down the heat for that black filament? maybe retraction?
Anyone else tweaked this issue? It needs to be fixed/adjusted as just going on luck that the tower isn’t pulled off the plate is not a good way to print.

Yes, a bit of mess is common depending on what is going on in the print.

I also noticed the same happening since a few days.

NO! It’s both absolutely unacceptable, yet totally unconnected with the printer and utterly trivial, surprisingly. Also, the purge tower in this case is actually working as intended, to keep that slop [mostly] off of your prints.

I’ve been doing a lot of “validation testing” for the kind of [technically and aesthetically] demanding functional prints I need to do.

Initially, I saw this phenomenon with EVERY filament I used, from no-name PLA that was laying around for 4 years, to high-quality, expensive, optimally dried, new “engineering” materials.

The prints were coming out more than acceptable, except in some instances where nozzle oozing was impairing important fine surface detail [which was aesthetically ugly, and worse, impeding functionality of articulating parts].

Upon close examination of various parts of various prints, I came to the hypothetical conclusion that incorrect nozzle temperatures were responsible.

So, to test the hypothesis I began lowering temperatures, and comparing results.

The results: No more of that purge-tower spaghetti, and the quality of prints aesthetically and dimensionally is outstanding.

How to achieve proper nozzle control easily? Print a small, 2-color test object with each color on each layer (like a two-color cube with half each color, vertically up the cube) using both print heads, using the filament(s) you want to use properly.

Watch the print carefully - pay attention closely when each nozzle switches to begin printing (when the little ooze-blocker swings away). If you see the nozzle ooze, you must lower that nozzle temp for that filament (I recommend decrements of 5 to 10º C), until there is NO ooze at the nozzle switching.

Once you find the highest temp you can set the nozzle at that does not ooze, you will not see this purge-tower spaghetti problem again.

I will demonstrate this with photos a bit later. [EDIT: No need for that, the problem has been fully described, documented and finally, acknowledged by Bambu as software/firmware errors that will be addressed in a future update.]

So this has now caused another tall print to have issues, BECAUSE OF AI SPAGHETTI DETECTION. This time the model and tower were just fine, but all the strands have fooled the printer into thinking there was an issue three times, I had to clip some of the strands and continue.

This WILL HAVE to be solved.

Meanwhile you can reduce the sensitivity of spaghetti detection to low, or turn it off completely if you are sure of the plate adhesion.

So Im fairly certain this did not happen to me before, although I never actually paid attention to this. Printing pa6cf with abs support interface

What’s weird is I think the nozzle is ramming before it actually is on the tower, thus extruding a filament line that gets caught by the edge. Some ooze from heat is ok, but my extruder was extruding a huge line of filament.

Changing the ramming amount to something low like 3-5mm helps alot without seemingly impacting print quality.

I cannot find any documentation about this issue anywhere else though. Some people say its normal, others like me say it never happened, then suddenly did happen. I tried reverting to firmware version 1.0 and it still did it so idk man. Hopefully they fix this soon.

So I’ve also just realized the system probably downloaded replacement filament presets. See attached configuration screen for bambu pla basic. I’m not sure some of these settings haven’t been updated. because my list of filament TYPES has certainly been overridden (I removed a ton of stuff and brands I don’t have on hand) Anyone really familiar with all the ramming setting that are there now? I’m gonna try reducing the ramming volume first to see what happens, but I’m dubious about “Travel time after ramming”

It’s totally normal and actually a good thing! Those little defects would otherwise end up on your model. You’ll mostly notice it during multi-color prints, especially when switching between colors. Also multi-material prints. Things like filament humidity can also cause weird extrusion behavior, so it’s just part of the process with multi-material printing. I’ve never had this issue, move your prime tower further away from the print or set the spaghetti detection to low. There isn’t really anything to solve… Either we want the spaghetti detection as a feature or we don’t, either we want clean multicolor prints or we don’t.

@SupportAssistant Hi Bambu please take a serious look on this issue. It’s happening all over the place since the recent updates. Must be some configuration change either from Bambu Studio or firmware that is triggering this. The amount of oozing is a sign of lack of retraction or extrusion but performed too early.

Respectfully, I completely disagree with you. I’ve been running the printer hard with multi color prints since I bought it in the first delivery wave, and not had this issue. Who wants long strands of filament being dragged around by the head on changes. It never did that before.
And the picture you referenced IS normal, what I posted above is NOT.

I agree with this assessment. Something changed, either the firmware update, or the studio update or the filament defaults, which also updated.

lol why. No . No one said “turn of spaghetti detection if you print dual color. Why should we to use the printer as intended. Is this a joke?

Just a theory, but I’m almost positive this has to do with the ramming settings. It could be so that it gets rid of the filament that’s dwelled in the hot nozzle before it gets to the prime tower. I noticed it does it for some filaments and not others. Haven’t looked into it much yet though.

It does seem pretty unnecessary as the prime tower itself would use up whatever has dwelled.

It’s bad programming. With the price we paid we shouldn’t wonder why it happens but why Bambu isn’t doing anything to fix it. Stop baling users, blame the makers of the machines. Additionally I not only see weird “selfdestructive” towers but also charred purge lines . Everything is wrong in the startup gcode since couple updates earlier. Otherwise I can’t explain why my purge line comes out charred while the nozzle “cools down “

The best way to solve this problem is by opening a ticket with all the details.
Firmware version, Studio Version, printer logs and the .3mf file printed.

That way, the CS team can investigate the problem and find out the root cause.
