Spin or Slide? H2D Rear Access

Has anyone mounted an H2D to a pivot or sliding shelf to allow easier access to the back of the machine?

I recently ordered an H2D that will replace my beloved P1S but I am trying to figure out the best place to put it. My P1S is located in the corner of my office on a shelf that is bolted to the wall. This has been fine but when I need to get access to the back, its a bit of a pain to move. The H2D is much larger and heavier. I know that I have the physical ability to wrestle it away from the wall when needed, but its going to much more unpleasant than moving the P1S.

My first thought is to mount some heavy sliding rails to the sides of a board so I can pull the H2D forward, but I am concerned that being on rails would impact print quality. Same problem with a large rotating mechanism.

Has anyone tried this? What are your solutions to gaining access to the rear of this beast?

No one has tried any of these things? How do you access the rear of the H2D?

May I ask you for what you’ll need access to the back?

I am just assuming… with the P1S I’d have to turn it around from time to time if I needed to do anything with the filament buffer. Is there no need to reach the back of the H2?

I have no idea what you need to do on the back, which is why I’m asking :slight_smile:

I used to have an X1C and now I have the H2C. I’ve never really had to touch the back, except when I made a big change like connecting a second AMS or converting from buffer to hub or something like that. But those are things that happen so rarely that you probably don’t need to worry about them…

Belt tension for example.

I’ve never had to retighten it yet. But if it’s worth it to you to mount the printer on rails or turntables for that reason… well, that’s up to you :slight_smile:

Accessing the filament buffer, power cord, vent pipe, AMS connect/disconnect for service.

These things, yes. I would love it if I never have to get back there, but I doubt that will be the reality.

To do what you need to do You just need to figure how to have the right side of the machine freely accessible, because the left side has its own issues with ams lines etc. Shortly if you intend to plug it between stuff and move it for anything you need to do to it, I wouldn’t shake it. What you need to wrestle away are the partners’ desks, to make room for the beast :joy:

I leave an access entrance behind the rack.

I have already had to access the back to access the TPU port. It is not super convenient, so I’m also interested if anyone has a good solution for this, other than just a ton of space behind it.

My H2D and the two AMS are on a plywood and 2x4 table I’ve repurposed for them. Sturdy. If I REALLY need to get behind, I’ll pull it out. Or at the minimum move the two AMS that are in a printed tilting frame. I could then rotate the printer. But 600 hours and 3 months and so far zero need.

I actually built out a solution using a heavy duty 20in lazy susan and 3/4 plywood. I cut the plywood slightly oversized than the H2D. Then I used an architect’s pen and traced it out, including the emergency button, because I had the laser version cut out the jigsaw and then place it on the lazy Susan. I don’t have pictures because I did not have the clearance in the end. You could put a wedge to keep it from turning or you can drill a threaded hole into the Lazy Susan and put a finger tie lock. Someone actually made this solution, but they charge like $200. The alternative that I found was the same piece of wood but with the 16-inch motorized turntable that holds up to 250 pounds, and then it won’t move when printing.
