Spiral print issues

Good evening everyone!

I’m working on another print that, for the most part, comes out great except for a couple of areas. I’m not exactly sure where to go from here or what settings I should be looking at.

Right now I have supports painted on everywhere on the underside of the spirals, I think the model needs them, but I’m starting to wonder if that’s actually the right approach. Not only that, but the supports are using more filament than the actual print!

I’m printing exclusively in PETG with a 0.4 nozzle.

It doesn’t really seem like the support interface itself is the problem. It feels more like the support structure or possibly the orientation of the model. Maybe there’s a better way to orient the part that would reduce the need for supports altogether?

At the moment I’m using painted-on tree supports, but I’m open to trying something completely different if it will improve the quality of the supported areas and reduce material usage.

Unfortunately I’m not in front of my computer right now, so I can’t provide my exact settings, but I’d greatly appreciate any advice on orientation, support strategy, or PETG-specific settings that might help.

what printer are you using?

I only have the Bambu A1.

Your overhangs are excessive for a support-less print. Is there any way you could design a higher helix angle?

If it was me, I’d probably design a complimentary support right into the part file that follows the helices all the way to the top and can be removed post print.

What is the printing speed?

Honestly I’m not sure but I think it’s was the stock .20 setting… I’m printing a new one now using a different orientation and I changed it to the stock .16 high quality setting…

I’m not sure how to do that….. I am using supports but it wasnt printing on that base part, I’m in the process of drinting and inverted version that is showing it’ll support everything
