Spool 2 is acting up

my A-1 printer is being very wonky. Slot 2 keeps making a wierd noise while trying to pull in the filament to the toolhead, after a few tries it says that “AMS1 Slot2 filament may be tangled or stuck, and then it when I hit the check solution button it says everything is fine. if I hit continue it just does the same thing again.

I contacted the bambulab support sevice for a different problem right before I had this one and they sent me replacement peices for the ams lite but when I told them about this problem they said the filement was just tangled and they closed the tickett.

I’m currently using just spools 1,3 and 4 but at one point it sayed that it ran out of filament (it didn’t) and it kept going back and forth between the print and the purge wiper and I had to cancle the print.

I have been trying to print the same thing for months now and have lost count of failed prints, please help!

Check the gear/wheel that is visible under the button on the slot. When there is no rod, it should spin freely.
These gears can be checked on all slots.
Have you tried disabling the “thread tangle detection” feature?

just an update. it stopped doing the back and forth thing and now it is doing the same thing that it did when I had to contact the customer support. It is making a wierd clicking sound while trying to unload filament, than it stops and says “unknown erroe code’. I think what’s happening is there’s a filament fragment stuck in there and it sences that so its trying to unload the tiny peice and it can’t. since it’s doing this I can’t fix the back and forth problem until I fix this one.

no, the wheel with teeth under the button! Without the rod/thread, it should spin freely. Try turning it with a toothpick :slight_smile:

I submitted a ticket, but by the time the slot arrived, the feed mechanism, I had disassembled it, cleaned it, lubricated the rollers, and it has been working for a year.

If this is the case then clean and inspect the PTFE tubes. Have you ever changed them and over what time period.

I changed one of them but my printer is new, about a year old, and I didn’t think I needed to.

I spun it and it went around freely. I’ll lubricate it and try again. I hope it works.

Well PTGE tubes are considered consumables and should be checked every so often for wear. Wear on the tubes will cause some problems.

sorry for taking so long to write back, I tried to lubricate the wheel but there wasn’t enough space to put the tube through. Should I take the part apart or is there a way to squeez the tube in?

Dispense a dot of oil onto something else, and dip the end of a toothpick [or similar] to act as a “brush” and stick it in surgically wherever its needed. Patience is needed to reapply :slight_smile:

These little superglue bottle micro dispensors can be jury rigged for oil too and can work well but messy down below since they dont seal well on non-superglue containers.

I lubricated all four of the wheels but only the one thats acting up could spin. Is that a bad thing?:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Update: I started the print again and it is doing well so far.

the printer was doing good but when it came to the part where I had to switch out the filament and it did the back and forth thing. I know why it is doing that now though. There is a fragment of filament stuck inside the toolhead and it thinks that filament is in there, so it tries to pull it out, after doing this for the amout of time it would normaly take to pull it out, it goes to print again, than it senses the filament fragment and does it again. the problem now is that I don’t knnow how to get it out. Any Ideas? :thought_balloon: :red_question_mark:

I have had the same problem with small pieces of filament getting stuck in my A1 and what I have done is purchased a pin vise drill handle and some 1.6mm steel bar stock and made a tool that I can use to purge the heated up hotend

where did you get those and can you send a picture of the tool you made?

I purchased both from Amazon. It costs less than $15 and I got the idea from the Jamwich which is offered through a 3d printing site https://cookiecad.com/products/jamwich?Print+technology=3D+printing

I don’t really understand how you tried to lubricate the gear. Did you disassemble the slot? The slot needs to be removed, the pins pulled out… That’s the only way you can access the bearings to lubricate… Be careful, note how the mechanism assemblies are located in the slot!
