When I change spools the RFID chip isn’t read/recognised. I end up having to edit the material on the printer. Isn’t the point of the RFID chip that I shouldn’t have to do that?
Or am I doing something wrong?

Do other spools work?
Is it a refill filament?
Can you try do the reread? If it still cannot read the rfid via manual re-read process, then there’s something wrong with your rfid.
This is for both spool-bought and refills.

That would suck. Was hoping for a fully automated process.
First load of the AMS (ie when I bought it) went perfect. Since then nothing registers and it’s always a manual process. Am I the only one with this problem? Hard to believe that every single spool since the original four has had a faulty RFID…
It should only happen when you previously assigned a manual profile (for a non RFID spool) and never re-read the rfid

Is the procedure to reload a new spool? I’ve just been taking the old one out and replacing it with a new one. It recognizes that I’ve removed a spool and that I have put in a new one. It just doesn’t read what the new one is.

It’s really unlikely that you got multiple spools all with defective RFID, but is a possibility. If you still have a spool that was known to have read successfully at some point:
Rack it in #1. does it detect?
Remove from #1, Rack it in #2. does it detect?
no/no, no/yes, yes/no → factory reset. Try again. Same result? open a support ticket about your AMS
yes/yes → good to go

Worth a shot. I’ll do that once I wrap up my current project. 
mine was the same, however, i turned off the printer, waited 30 seconds, and turned it back on. Then, it pushed all the ams spools back through again, and it worked just fine

I think under AMS Settings on the panel, there’s a “Read Filament on Insertion” Might have gotten unchecked sometime.

I have frequent problems with the external spool recognizing spools (it’s always feeding the left nozzle), even on brand new bambu spools, or spools previously read inside the AMS2 (feeding the right nozzle). I have used a couple other (name brands) spools in both AMS2 and external, manually iding them with custom filaments etc.
Latest firmwares for both as of yesterday. mb this problem is gone?
I heard (or misread?) the reader is “at the top” of where the spool would be, holding it (RFID oriented that way) in place still didn’t work.
Mb I’ll try the power cycle thing for 30 seconds… I’ve been a little impatient not treating it exactly like a computer/router/etc. which I guess I should.
Yes. Don’t know what I did wrong in back then, was definitely user error though i.e. me. All good now.
Today I had the same issue after a failed print. I had to unload the last used spool before the AMS read the newly loaded spools again. Hope this helps someone.
Had this also, and the humidity was at 0, i just unplugged the cable, waited 10 seconds, than plugged it in again. After this it worked.
