I was out of the house while a print supposedly finished, I came home to a wildly fanned out ribbon mess of filament behind the printer. At some point about half way through, the spool split in half on the printer and caused mayhem and air printing. It pulled the ptfe tube to the inner clamp, twisted the exposed portion, and eventually the gears ground the filament and it gave out is my best guess. One half of the spool was on the floor 3 feet away from the printer, I believe the filament acted like a spring and ejected it. The filament is now too unruly to jam back onto the spool.

Is there anything I can do about this…? The filament expanded past the carboard, so I can’t compress the spool to re-join them. Can I just “send it” as a giant loose bunch? Does Bambu do anything about this…? It wasn’t a refill so I didn’t mess with the spool, loading it improperly etc, it was PLA Metal that came directly from them.

Definitely do not “just send it” unless you have a winning lottery ticket also in your pocket. It’s gonna knot.

There are filament respooling helpers out there to print. I’ve not personally used any so I can’t recommend one over the other. Send bambu a ticket w/ this pic and your order # and they’re likely to send you another, and in the meantime you can try to rescue your spaghetti. You might not be able to get it all back into one spool but you can definitely make some benchy sized mini rolls :wink:

I forgot to check the wiki when I searched the forum for relevant posts talking about this issue first, which was my mistake. There is a whole dedicated topic for this, including a potential tool to hold the two half’s together, and I think my winding is clean enough.
