Starting to see that Bambu Slicer is Garbage

so you’re saying it was a…skill issue? :joy:

Use Orca slicer. Ten fold better then bambu. Does everything bambu does plus much much more

I do still miss some of the items in PrusaSlicer as they seem to have been changed just to be different and not necessarily to work better.

Simple things like defining new filament is done by voodoo I think because I’ve not found a good way to do that manually. (I haven’t looked too hard as the generic profiles work ok.)

I wouldn’t say that, I use the Bambu slicer

Start with the generic or Bambu filament preset, edit as needed, save with a new name.

Huh. Thanks! All of the advanced type controls are so much different from PrusaSlicer that I seem to have trouble finding them.

Just offhand, do you also know how to save the ‘project’ type information on models that I create? Not sure if I said that right, but I’ve figured out that if I make a group and export as an STL in SelfCAD, it will (optionally) show up correctly assembled in the assembly view in BambuSlicer, but I’m not sure how to edit the metadata on the project tab. It’s not a showstopper but I’m astoundingly OCD about little details like that. (I’ll spend hours getting some little detail perfect while realizing that no one will ever notice or care)

Although early versions of Studio allowed you to edit the project tab data, Bambu has removed that capability. The only data on the Project tab now comes from downloaded Makerworld projects. AFAIK, there is no way to use the tab for your own projects.

I switched to Orca after Bambu started failing when I was trying to connect to my printer’s camera. Support did nothing to help with this, but Orca worked wonders. Try it out.

Exactly, color mapping is a feature needed. It is so annoying that you have to do the mapping until you are starting the printing, very counter intuition and easy to make mistakes.

So you’ve used all of the functions of OrcaSlicer and you decided you like BambuSlicer better?

I use both! And I dont need or use ALL the functions of either software.

Bambu Studio for the X1C. It slices just fine for me. I’m a hobbyist it doesn’t have to be a perfect print.

OrcaSlicer for my Qidi XMAX3, I think this slicer is better than the one sent with the Qidi plus it has a preset for this printer. I can work with mother>child software.

Fair enough!
Interesting that you use 2 different slicers when one would handle both printers.
I think the extra features of OrcaSlicer really improves on BambuStudio.
One of the features that come to mind is “Internal solid infill pattern”. The lack of that option in BambuStudio frustrated me early on.

I tried Orca Slicer and it’s ok, but I still prefer Bambu Slicer. In my experience, the defaults settings for everything work quite well, and the more I mess with advanced settings, the worse the results get so I stick to the defaults, no need to tweak things here.

took me a bit to figure out but if you click the device tab on top and change your printer in there the ams settings will revert to your chosen printer. it can be annoying always having to jump around the device tab but i have no longer had the issue of switching printers in the prepare tab then like wtf is happening here, why do i always have to put everything in all over again. when you choose a printer in the prepare tab, common sense tells you everything should change back right along with it but i guess thats rocket surgery for bambu. hope that helps with some of your issues

Do you by chance have a link or two to an explanation of how to set up the 32 color palate?

Sorry no I don’t as my printing is 100% functional single color / filament but there’s got to be something on what you’re looking for, possibly try the search function…

Sure! Here’s the message in English:

Hi!

I completely understand your frustration, especially when you expect a system to be intuitive but end up dealing with unexpected issues. Don’t get discouraged; you’re already doing a great job by digging in and trying to improve the process.

For the issue with the filaments not being selected correctly, I recommend double-checking that all settings are synchronized before starting the slicing process. It might also help to save a custom profile where A4 is preselected, so you don’t have to manually adjust it each time.

If the filament settings aren’t being saved, make sure you’re using the latest version of Bambu Studio. If the issue persists, try exporting the modified profile and reimporting it—this workaround has been helpful in similar situations.

Regarding the persistent error message, it does sound like a bug. Restarting the project, as you’ve been doing, is likely the quickest fix for now. However, I’d suggest reporting this issue to Bambu Lab’s support team, including the steps you’re taking. This could help them address it in a future update.

Lastly, I recommend checking out the Bambu Lab community (forums or social groups). Other users often face similar issues and might have additional tips or solutions.

Don’t give up—you’re learning a lot, and every small win brings you closer to consistently great results!
