Steering Trim

I’ve made a few cars, the vintage F1 kind, but I can’t seem to reliably adjust the steering trim.

Can someone please walk me through the steps so I can see what I’m doing wrong.

It seems that sometimes the steering adjusts a teeny tiny bit per degree, but other times the same amount makes the steering way far off of center.

Do both the Tx and Rx need to be connected via BT to the PC? Or just the car that needs trimming?

Why does one of my cars steer 45 degrees to the left when switched on, but then center when the Tx is turned on?

Is there a way to set the steering trim to a dial on the remote, like pretty much every other RC car in the world, or must we use the clunky method of connecting the car to the software, then adjusting the degree by guessing, then uploading the new config, then trying it to see if you adjusted it by the right amount?

Like I mentioned before, 1 degree in one config is not the same as 1 degree in another config. Doesn’t seem like actual degrees at all… so you’re constantly guessing? Is that the way we’re supposed to use the steering centering?
What am I missing here?

Look at the assembly instructions for the Cyberbrick Truck. There is an unnumbered step between step 17 and 18 where they show how to set the servo to center BEFORE assembly.

I have my breadboard receiver setup to do this any time I use a 180 servo.

I’m aware of the physical centering of the servo prior to installation. This is a basic step in any car or aircraft build. I’m not talking about that.

I want to know how to do what RC hobbyists call “Sub-Trim” as in, micro adjustments (AFTER correct installation of a centered servo) due to the fact that no centered installation is truly perfectly centered, and the car will drift one way or the other after being built.

The “center point” parameter in the configuration section of the steering servo for a vehicle, seems to not work reliably.

I’m wondering if there’s a step I missed or if it’s just quirky and doesn’t always equate 1 degree in the software to 1 actual degree in the steering or the rotation of the servo horn.

The step you’re referring to is something already completed correctly in all of the 6 cars I’ve made.
I want a reliable way to make further micro steering adjustments.

Ultimately I’d like that feature “steering trim” do be designated to a rotary knob on the controller, like every off the shelf RC car TX (Transmitter) but I can’t even find a basic potentiometer within the Cyberbrick ecosystem…so maybe that’s just wishful thinking?
