I’m using PCTG for a print and as I decrease the layer height I’m seeing stringing. None at 1.6, a little at 1.2, and more at .8. Why is this, and how can I prevent it? I’m trying to get the smoothest cleanest print I can for a product demo. Thanks!
When printing thin layers with PCTG, you risk delamination (layer separation) , brittleness , and warping . Thin layers cool rapidly, which prevents the hot filament from thermally fusing with the layer below. Furthermore, thin-walled prints of this material are highly flexible and prone to aesthetic defects.
Increased Stringing and Oozing: PCTG is highly sensitive to temperature and retraction. When printing thin layers, the nozzle may linger or travel frequently, which often exacerbates stringing and leaves behind wisps of plastic.
because you’re dipping the nozzle into the extruded filament, so some filament would be sticking on the nozzle. causing more stringing.
although you can improve it by some degrees via drying the filament or other settings, some filaments are simply not good for details.
