Hello everyone. I’m having trouble with the black filament. I’ve run retraction tests and I don’t have any threads, but when I print, the prints come out blotchy. I don’t understand what the problem could be. I don’t know what else to do. I changed the filament profile with a retraction of 1.4 and a z-step of 0.6, and a temperature of 200 or less, and I’m still having problems. Filaments from different brands and new ones; it’s not a humidity issue. They used to work fine, but then they started failing. I’m thinking it could be a firmware update for the printer or an update to the Bambu Studio. Could someone please give me some guidance? Thank you very much.
You need to better define blotchy and best way is take pictures.
All filaments absorb moisture. There should be little if any difference between brands. It’ll be more a function of the plastic (Nylon, for instance, is virtually a sponge compared to PLA). In addition, just because filament is new and sealed in a bag does not guarantee it is dry. And lastly, filaments can absorb moisture very quickly (like in the span of hours).
If you don’t live in a polar region, or a desert where ambient humidity levels are always low, and you’re not doing anything specific to dry and keep your filament dry, to a high degree of certainty this is your problem.
I have a filament dryer, and I’ve run it for up to 36 hours to see if that changed, but it didn’t. I’m wondering if the problem could be that filament has accumulated inside the cap that covers the hotend, and that’s where the PLA is falling out. I did a retraction test and I don’t see any threads, but when I print a lamp, it ends up with some smudges. Tomorrow I’ll check that the hotend is clean. I couldn’t think of anything else.

Hi. I’m still testing because I don’t understand what’s going on. I’ll tell you what I did.
I heated the filament with a commercial hairdryer for over 24 hours.
I changed four brands of filament: the best I’ve tried on the local market, Printalot, which didn’t give me any problems, and the last one I bought was Elego PLA Pro.
I lowered the temperature.
I increased the retractions.
I replaced the extruder gears with a new one (I thought it might be wear).
I also lowered the fan speeds.
I couldn’t get the test to show no threads. I’ve been making lamps for 18 months, and for some time now, I’ve been having problems with the threads forming.
Does anyone have any ideas for anything else I could try? Thanks.
I want to clarify that I have two printers, but they have the same runtime, and I’m not getting good results with either.
I still have to try the slicer.
Hi everyone. I’ve been running a lot of tests, and even though the K factor was 0.2 to 0.25, I kept increasing it to 0.4 and managed to get it to run smoothly. I don’t think I could have done that because I was guided by what I saw in the printer calibration tests, but I got it to work. Thanks so much for the help. I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone.
I had a similar problem with PLA basic and I also posted a Ticket, but they guided me to calibrate the filament from the WIKI. I tried a lot but finally I managed to set K to 0.02 and everything works ok. One small note: for EU use decimal separator dot instead of comma. Very similar problem with MS Excel decimal separator.
