Hey everyone, I recently switched to a hardened steel nozzle, and suddenly all my prints are experiencing stringing—small wisps of filament everywhere. I never had this issue with the stock stainless steel nozzle.
I’ve tried increasing the temperature and adjusting retraction settings. My filaments are dry and print perfectly with the stainless steel nozzle. I also recalibrated the printer after the nozzle change, updated the printer and slicer settings to reflect the hardened nozzle, and recalibrated flow and K-factor. Despite all this, the print quality has significantly worsened.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

First, did you click on the edit icon next to the nozzle and select the new nozzle type there? If not, here’s how you do it.
Under the basic information tab, you scroll down to accessory and select “hardened steel”. Then save it as whatever the nozzle name was with HS or hardened steel added to the name. Then select that nozzle when printing.
Run a temperature tower (Use Orca slicer) to ensure you’re running at the best temperature for the new nozzle / filament combination. The heat transfer coefficient for the hardened steel is different from stainless. I’ve adjusted my temps by about 5 degrees on my P1S on some materials after putting in the hardened steel nozzle. It seems to vary by brand and material type whether or not you need to change the default temperature.
If you had to change the temperature, or are still having stringing with the default temperature, do a flow calibration. Once that’s done, try a retraction change.
I had assumed the differences from the different nozzle materials would be taken into account in the firmware or settings, but it seems I was wrong based on my experiences.
