Stronger parts

So, I was watching the video on brick layering. He found that even normal layers, if overextruded makes the part 25%ish stronger, but also causes XY expansion. My thought was that, to get the strongest part possible, a person could print it at 110% extrusion ratio, measure XY expansion, adjust XY dimensions accordingly and then reprint.

I had watched that video and was initially worried he wasn’t going to test the same over extrusion on a normal print. Glad he did, since that showed how much stronger that alone will increase strength. Stefan has done testing in his previous videos where he showed a similar result with over extrusion.

I haven’t personally tried it for increasing part strength, but I’d imagine it’ll reduce print quality. Probably the best answer would be a combination of settings such as over extrusion, fan speeds, layer time, temperature, print speeds, etc. All things to give the filament better adhesion to neighboring layers. Tweak the knobs until you get the strength to quality you are looking for.

Will be cool when the brick layering is refined to include compensation for the void between the lines. It’s cool things like this that make 3d prints more and more viable for part making and not just prototyping.
