Hello people.
I operate a multi‑AMS setup: 9 AMS units, up to 36 filaments loaded at once. Over 3 machines
My workflow relies a lot on custom filament profiles because some third‑party filaments work better with specific tuning: (And it makes them easier to differentiate in BS)
For example
-
SUNLU/Jayo Matte PETG HS Orange and Dark Blue → –10°C for proper colour and finish
-
Landu PETG Purple → +10°C for better layer bonding
-
Other filaments have their own temp offsets, flow adjustments, cooling changes, etc.
These profiles aren’t cosmetic — they’re the only reliable way to differentiate filaments in AMS and slice them safely.
Many rolls of filament and hours of printing are involved here
Studio 2.8.x now marks all custom filaments as “unsupported”, forcing a fallback to generic PLA/PETG.
This breaks:
-
temp offsets
-
flow tuning
-
bonding fixes
-
cooling behaviour
-
purge volumes
-
AMS mapping
-
filament identity
The problem is made far worse because:
-
The filament colour picker is extremely limited
-
AMS cannot store names for the units
-
AMS only shows “PLA / PETG / ABS / TPU / Unknown”
-
generic fallback makes several filaments visually identical
-
mistakes become unavoidable
-
Using Generic settings and tweaking them manually is a nightmare scenario that will lead to errors
Custom profiles were the only functional identity system for large filament libraries.
Without them, multi‑AMS workflows become chaotic and error‑prone.
Please restore full custom filament support or provide:
-
permanent AMS naming
-
expanded colour options
-
custom hex colours
-
better filament identification tools
Right now, Studio 2.8.x makes high‑volume AMS setups unmanageable.
Can someone confirm is this is a “Bug” or are custom filament profiles gone for good?
