I am going to print using PETG, and I remember I bought some of the PLA/PETG support filament, so I put it in my AMS.
But strangely enough, Studio does recognize it correctly in the project filament as Bambu Support for PLA/PETG… yet under the filament used for supports, it shows up as Support for PLA.
And when I click on the filament slot (placement 8), I also get the correct name:
By the way, can someone either make the windows longer or give a shorter name to the filament? It’s bothering me that I can’t expand it. It’s like in Windows, where all the windows in setting have fixed dimensions. They didn’t think about other languages. I presume in Chinese it fits because it’s just kanji, but with an alphabet, that’s not the case.
So of course, Studio gives me a warning because for it its just PLA:

And now I’m stuck — because what’s going to happen if I print? Studio thinks it’s the wrong filament, so it will use the wrong settings.
When I click on the three dots next to the filament to edit it, I get this:
So what’s the point of having an edit button if the type is greyed out and I can’t change it? Didn’t anyone consider that bugs could happen and that we, the users, might want to override what we know to be true?
Bambu, fix this.
Also, looking at the last window where you can click on Settings, you can find all the support filament settings.
But I wonder — in the “Type” field, they keep the material it’s supposed to support… but aren’t all support filaments made of different materials? That’s the whole point, right? Otherwise, they would stick, like when you’re making supports with the same filament.
So I did a print with PLA and the new PLA support material — but it was a mess. The support material was really sticky.
So is it because of these wrong settings that Studio is using? Thinking:
- PLA support = PLA
- PLA/PETG support = PLA
- and so on, and so on?
comparing all , the setting are different, so it might just be a name issue, and the fact that bambu studio only see PLA and consider its wrong, but i would like bambu to clarify this situation
also just stumble onto the PRICE cell, with the formula money/kg
how does it work ? does it update itself base on the current price on bambu ?
To be honest, I tried the “Support for PLA/PETG” exactly once. And then abandoned it. Using PETG for PLA and PLA for PETG with a 0mm z-distance and solid interface works much, much better for me.
Unless it is a really challenging print. In those (very rare) cases, I like to use either a “classical”, same material support interface (with z-separation of course, for concave domes for example) or BVOH as a support interface.
Still got the remainder of my “Support for PLA/PETG” from 2023. Not likely I’ll ever use it again…

Well, I couldn’t spot any advantage whatsoever. It stuck to PLA just like PLA.
I then played around a lot with BVOH (which is AMAZING in particular with PLA but does need to be well very dried … weekly … and is relatively expensive) before stumbling upon forum posts on using PETG as an interface layer for PLA and vice versa. Tried it… and never looked back 
The early days were a bit tricky due to temp settings needing to be just right during the material switch but nowadays, I just hit print.

interesting, if you have the setting for the h2d for that i will try it for sure, but i can’t believe they sell special support and they don’t have a product that work, do you think they might have done improvement on the formula ? its been 2 years
Yes, there have been changes in the support material. To be honest though, any support that is easy to remove with a 0mm support distance is very difficult to beat. Especially if it is cheap.
But yes, there should have been improvements although I am struggling to imagine how that would beat PETG for PLA. Maybe for large interface areas… if it was even easier to remove while still providing sufficient adhesion to support at height…
Since I do not have an H2D, I am not familiar with H2D settings. On my X1, I usually modify the PETG settings to
- a reduced flow (since it rewards printing slow, usually going down to 75%),
- check that the fan settings for PETG are identical to the Generic PETG settings (I think there may be a challenge for the H2D as it seems to have a stronger fan),
- enable wipe on retract and
- define it as the support interface in the support tab.
- When prompted to reduce z-distance to 0 I just hit “yes” and print. It has been at least 9 months since I had a problem with that. Probably Studio 01.07. …
