If I start a new project or open a new project, the prepare tab locks up. The software doesn’t fully freeze. I can still edit settings, but can’t touch the plate or any objects. If I go to a different tab and then return to the prepare tab, the last tab still occupies the space where the objects should be and I only the the prepare settings.
I haven’t yet connected a printer… could that be the problem? My new P1S was delivered today and now I’m second guessing if I should even open it.
mmmmm, could be.
Really sounds like the file may be large and your puter may be sucking some of the “i can do it” sauce. Could just be a bad install.
Try a small file, like a keychain or or one of @MalcTheOracle award winning keychains or @PrinterMcgee stuff or @me stuff. Give it a shot then see what happens.

Shouldn’t be the file size. It is doing it after starting a new (empty) project.
I did uninstall and re-install already once. The prepare tab worked for a few minutes (until I downloaded a small project) and now it gets stuck very quickly.
Hmm, worked then didn’t as soon as you loaded a small project.

Yeah that shouldn’t be giving anything but a potato a problem. Is this happening when downloading and opening it locally or using the “Open in Bambu Studio” (which if you didn’t know is the exact same thing) except you get the lag of Studio opening from scratch even if you have one open already.*

Originally I thought the answer to this was no… but add one just to see if it fixes it. Just add a vanilla P1S with a .4 nozzle and then try to open the model again.
Not connecting the printer should be fine, but you do need to select and add a printer model. The blank plate renders based off the printer model you have selected. Having a truly empty profile might be in the “garbage in garbage out” category of problems
Add one, any one, but probably a P1s will end up useful for you lol =p
I (think) I’ve got that setup. Already had it, in fact.
I’ve also tried changing the NVIDIA settings to no effect.
I do have another computer I can try… so starting down that road before I open this box (or send it back)

I’m not sure what your concern is with the physical object delivered to your door, it’s not influencing this problem, you’re in software/computer issues, and you ultimately dont have to use bambu studio unless you want to.
Honestly, I thought I had to use this software to print to this machine.
Certainly, it must offer the most customization and control of the machine over any other software though… right?
What other software would you suggest?
You can use Orca Slicer.
Downloaded Orca and it works. Given that it is based on the the BBL Studio, I’m actually surprised that it works… but it does!

NOTE: I’ve opened a ticket with support and they’ve collected a bunch of information/logs/etc, but no solution as of yet. Will update here if I get one.
Welp. Ocra also locks up now. I could work with it quite a bit more, but started trying to paint and it very quickly locked up.
Well given that development is more active with Orca I would imagine that the problems lies in a setting or something on your pc. Of course you could confirm this by trying an older version of BL or Orca

Finally came back to try this again.
In windows System->Settings->Display-Graphics I added the BambuStudio app and forced it to use the Nvidia graphics driver. It was defaulted to the “Let Windows Decide” option, which must have been using the Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver. When I switched it over to NVIDIA GeForce RTX BambuStudio started working. Joy!
