Suggestion: filter for filament type in MakerWorld search

Today i was looking for something to print in makerworld with couple filament i’v ordered, PLA Silk and PETG Translucent. No filter suggest that, why? I think that based on filament you can use or is suggested it could be very useful. Many users starts printing stuff but the poor knowledge of the correct filament to print led to “oh my part got broken” or “No this part didn’t print well in pla !!” or stuff like that. So my request is to add most of filament types in makerworld models filters, just like noozle size, printer model etc.etc.

I don’t think it really cares about the filament type, its stored there in the 3mf but if you try to print from handy it will just default to whatever filament you’re using, so i don’t really think thats something they will add as a search, same pretty much applies for the nozzle size as the majority of models will be sliced for .4 by default but handy will adjust it for the .2 if you have one

I was thinking to what the author of the model suggest, like cellphone cover > tpu or a hook > pla-cf. I see we have printer model, nozzle size, multicolor but no filament type. This just as general search, of course you can modify it with whatever you need or have, but that is up to you.

They can just add it as a tag if they really want to, but most people will put it in the description or like the examples you gave the material type would be fairly obvious based on what the model is trying to do, it would require people to manually make sure they had zero excess filaments set in their slicer when they saved the 3MF otherwise it would end up hitting incorrect searches etc

I don’t think its something that would actually matter to the majority of people who are just searching for x type of thing rather than something they can print with x material

Same wish over here… Love the idea

Thanks, more over as we all know, lots of filament cannot be printed by A1 and mini. Right now i think if you select A1 printer it refers just to the plate size. A search that exclude these model i can’t print because the filament required, would help a lot.

This is dead wrong. As a brand new user, it would be amazing in the mobile apps to filter by what type of filament projects are made from. We are just getting used to the ecosystem and being able to search for printable projects by filament type would be insanely useful.

For the most part it literally doesn’t matter, pretty much anything on the site can be printed with near enough any material (with the exception of flexible materials) so as far as new users would be concerned unless they are trying to print one of the airless basketballs or a new pair of shoes they can use whatever PLA, PETG etc they happen to have to hand as pretty much any solid model will print about the same with any regular filament
