Suggestions on getting rid of imperfections on overhangs

Hi all, wasn’t sure where to put this but since I’m currently using my H2D and it’s an active sub I chose here. Even on my X1C I’ve always had layer lines/deformities on overhangs. IN particular when printing faces you will see it at the chin, even with supports. I have slowdown on overhangs enabled, and in this particular example I even have outer wall speed set to 40 since I’m using silk, yet I still get this. Any suggestions?

Also, I wanted to try adaptive layer height on this as well. It said it couldn’t do it with the organic tree support (this is a makerworld model with profile) so I switched it to default, I’m just curious what others would use in this scenario? Maybe adaptive layer height isn’t worth it? I haven’t used it before but was just going to use default values and click adaptive and see how it came out.

Use PETG or Support for PLA as support interface material with 0 z-top distance. Also face (no pun intended) the overhang towards the AUX fan and bump its speed to max for the overhang layers.

Where do you adjust the aux fan speed for overhangs? I see that for part cooling which is already set to 100% and always on for pla silk.

It’s a video about TPU but consider it anyway; it should link to the time shown but if not the bit I’m talking about is at 8:02.

A mild fuzzy skin set to 0.05-0.1 can help deal with smaller and more organic overhangs. Personally I would paint the overhangs manually on the spots that absolutely -need- support, set the top Z distance to 0.21-0.22 and for the more gentle sloping overhangs and (maybe) use a height modifier to set a fuzzy skin only on that spot or just apply it to the entire print
