Support filament need AMS?

hello, after hundreds of attempts can’t seem to find the perfect support sweet spot for 0.12mm layer height so I decided to go with support filament(PETG for start) and use 0 gap

my question is,do I need AMS for this?since it’s a second spool?! or how does that work?

I don’t own ams

Hello! Mostly yes, you probably will need an AMS for using support filament.

The factor is if there is a layer (one, or multiple) which consists of more than one filament, then you need an AMS.

If for instance you have solely PETG on layers 1-100, and then solely PLA on layers 101-500, then you do not need an AMS, you can pause after the last PETG layer, change filament to PLA and then resume. But you cannot pause mid layer (not easily - you may be able to pause mid-layer using g-code tweaks), you can only pause between layers.
