Support on top of print

Hello all,

I am trying to print this model which I made to be 180*180mm specifically for the build plate of my A1 mini.

Because the print is so big I have no room to print supports which I would like to have for the circles I am piercing on the side of the print. I found BLS options to print supports on my model but when I use those, BLS tells me my print is outside plate boundaries.

Is there something I can do to add supports and make sure they are within the build plate boundaries ?

The support is naturally going to extend just a small amount around what it’s going to support. The best I can think of that may work would be to add a support blocker to the outer edge of each opening. Make it really thin and align it so that it only blocks the support that actually goes that slight bit outside of the hole. That should let the inner part of the support stay in place while removing that little extra.

If that doesn’t work I think the only option would be to create your own support by filling in the hole with something you design yourself so that it only touches areas that need support with the absolute thinnest strand of filament you can get in there. Then just break your own pieces out just like you would support added by the slicer.

I was about to try out your solution when I thought to myself, what if I slightly reduce the size of my print ?
Making my model 179*179mm seems to be just enough to appease the BLS plate slicing gods.

Thanks for the quick answer.

why
it was happening cuz theres no more place to put an sopport

If you designed the tray, design in the supports. Do the holes have to be circular? Tear drop or hexagon work without supports.

I didn’t end up doing it but designing supports might also have worked.

That being said, yes I absolutely needed holes to be circular because this design is for a custom arcade stick. These holes will house circular arcade stick buttons like these.
