I’m designing a build which will need supports, however I want to minimise them. I found this article which discusses the angle you configure in Bambu Studio , but I wasn’t getting the expected result. So I created an overhang test in TInkercad, imported into Bambu Studio and then tried different threshold angles.
The test starts wth the item vertical so no support needed, and then each one is 10• off the vertical, so you’d think that at same threshold angle of 30• only 30 and the ones more horizontal would need support. But the slicer doesn’t so that. As a test I selected zero and I still get more supports than expected.
I’ve noticed this too and did some googling and found this. No matter what angle I set the threshold to it insists on adding supports where there are clearly none needed. I tried various angles between 1-90 and every one of them added support to an almost vertical part (can’t upload a picture for some reason). I’m not looking forward to manually checking each print for unnecessary supports…
Studio measures the threshold angle relative to the horizontal, as shown in the built-in Primitive → ksr FDM Test. This is confusing when using other test models that measure threshold angles relative to vertical. Personally, I find Studio’s method more intuitive.
