Tall thin falling over

I have been trying to print this project and I need it to be in that orientation (I need the layer joint to be perpendicular) but while printing these, I have had 2 failed prints due to fall over.

Does changing the orientation of the part so the larger part be in the y axis and the thin on the x helps (so more section in the direction of movement)

I tried to add a vertical support line in bambulab and nothing is added once sliced, that I don’t understand why.

Any other proposition? I could angle them but it creates a to of waste.

I tried to shorten it all, but it fails quite low ± 40mm

Things I would suggest.

  • Change “Brim-object gap” to 0. This will help bond the skirt to the parts.

  • Run the printer slower (IE in Silent Mode).

  • You can add vertical support by painting the area you want it to generate at. Be sure enable it.

Hi Thank you, Silent mode? How? Just lower the speeds manually?

I tried the adding vertical supports and nothing appeared last time.



Is this support enough?

Don’t paint a seam along the wall - use just small areas.
3 or 4 spread along the wall will do fine.
But judging by the shape I would probably try it flat on the bed.
With the supports set to snug there should be enough gap in those rails to clean out the supports quite easy.
Assuming these rails shall hold something at a later stage I am not 100% sure in which direction your load would go, but flipping it might be worth consideration.

It’s to be a rail so a screw can slide and support a vertical load

Printed flat makes the layers a possible risk and they might snap off under load…

I know it is not what you want to hear but there is curtain rails designed for just that and they are surprisingly cheap.
So rather than printing the lot you could just print some slide in mounts for the rail and could add a load a printed part would never be able to hold.
Depending on the application you could even screw the rail on as it is.
Might be worth thinking about especially if frequent movement/adjustment is required.

I am open to buying (I did that search first) but all the version I found are too tall/ too big for my need. and ore can’t be installed a way I need.

After 18h on a 24h print, after implementing it all

I am rethinking it all. Tired of the waste on prints

Ps the support weren’t adhered to the print.

What material are you printing with?

PLA-CF but it was the print orientation, I fully changed the design and now it’s fine.
