I have a small disc with a slight taper that looks great in the CAD program but looks and prints with concentric rings in my A1 Mini. I tried a few different infill types and the usual appearance settings but it still prints with concentric ridges in it. And the same disc with a flat top prints perfect. So is there a trick to make this correct or is is just a lousy file from my CAD software? I will attach the small file is anyone wants to help me out.

I will tinker with the resolution but I already have a custom profile and it works well for non tapered items. I will also try to print a .step file as I just remembered they can be better. Feel free to add comments though.
It’s just the taper angle versus layer height. A very small angle at default settings will look like that. If you use a smaller layer height it will get better but still likely to see the concentric pattern. Assuming you are using default 0.4mm nozzle with 0.2mm layer height, go to 0.08mm layer height or use adaptive layer height to apply it to just the top portion.
You would get that smooth look you want as in the 3d model if you reorient it so its standing up, add brim and supports because it will need it. It would be advisable to cut it so there is a small flat spot on the bottom if that can meet the design requirement.
@Lenyo Thanks for that info. I will mess around with it tomorrow but you are correct that I was using 0.2mm and an 0.4mm nozzle. It’s not a critical part as it’s just a spool retainer for my wife’s sewing machine. I figured it may me a known issue because of the slight taper.
stepping on angled top surfaces is a well known limitation of layered FDM printing.
you can also try to use variable layer height which will smooth it out a bit but there will still be steps.
Yeah, I kind of figured that when I did a google search and didn’t find anyone talking about it. I did see a lot of talk about other concentric problems but none about slight tapers. Well I am glad to know that it’s a limitation so I don’t worry about trying to fix it. Just design parts with a single step as opposed to a taper if I need clearance for example. It’s all good.
