So I’ve been putting RFID tags on my non-bambu filament spools since Snapmaker U1 reads the open spool format, and I’m hoping for more printers to come online to use that format.
I got a new spool of Creality ABS and I tagged it. I used some of the spool in my Prusa Core 1 L, but I moved it to my H2C and put it in my AMS HT, and when it loaded I was watching the H2C screen, ready to enter that it was Generic ABS…. But it came up as Generic ABS on its own.
I had been using ABS in that AMS last week and it was the last filament I used in there. But normally when I unload and reload a different spool in there, it won’t assume it’s the same as I used last time and forces me tell it what it is. Has anyone else noticed this, or is this expected behavior and I just didn’t understand how open spool works?
depends on the previous spool.
if it was a bambu spool, the next time you insert non-rfid filaments the printer would show as a question mark (unknown filament).
if it was a non-rfid spool, the next time you insert another non-rfid spool, it’s going to use whatever the profile you previously set, basically assuming it’s the same spool just reinserted.

But, I had a spool of HIPS that I put in the AMS 2 a couple weeks ago, It was tagged, and it came up as HIPS, even though I put it in just a random open spot - but it had been in the AMS previously in maybe the same location, maybe not, but it was out of that AMS for a while. I kind of just thought it was a fluke.
This morning, after a power cycle, the AMS HT was empty, and nothing showed in the slot. It went through the whole ritual of spinning the spool to read its tag and then popped up, I thought - maybe this is a thing? 
I guess it was just hopeful thinking.
