I have printed for hundreds of hours on my machines, relying on the profiles and auto adjustments, which have given me pretty remarkable results. I decided to manually tweak the Polymaker PETG filament on my X2D, and while everything seems to look great, I am curious about something. The Temp. tower I printed showed the best results down at 220 °C, which is quite a bit lower than the temps shown by the manufacturer. I also noticed that when doing the max volume test, it started l showing minor defects at only 30, which seemed rather low to me. Higher temps look ok, except that I had the tips of points not being as clean. My filament hasn’t been dried, but the room it is stored in has only 30% relative humidity. I am running the Obxidian HF .4 hotend. I am wondering if the humidity might be causing me to run at a lower temp than necessary because it is expanding in the nozzle and causing poor-quality points.
So, I can’t speak to the Obxidian HF .4 hotend, but Moisture is always an issue. When i bought my printer, the first thing I did was build dry boxes. and I print directly from those dry boxes though PTFE tubes to the hotend. I have problems from time to time, but most of those are caused by me trying to push my filament to the bleeding edge (my prints focus on using the lowest amount of filament possible while achieving aesthetically pleasing, but structurally sound designs). Or I was stupid and left the PLA siting on top of the bench where the sun got to it

So to help the visual here, I live in Phoenix, and the relative humidity here runs 4-12% outside. In the house it runs up to 30% humidity because of the AC.
With PETG over 20%, your going to get stinging or popping (the popping at the nozzle is the moisture flash boiling to steam).
