Cracked open a brand new spool of Bambu pa6-gf this morning so I could dry it, and I can’t find the end of the filament. The tape is there on the side of the spool where it would normally be holding onto the end, but the end of the filament is not there.
About half of the outer wrap is kind of loose so I figured maybe the tape just let it go and it’s somewhere in that loose filament, but no. It’s not there! I can’t find it lol. Did it bury itself into the spool somehow? I dunno.
Well, that’s a first for me. Had to leave for work so I couldn’t investigate further, but I will when I get home. Hopefully the spool isn’t trashed or anything. I might wind up having to respool it because it does feel kinda loose on the spool all the way around.
I didn’t see any gap on the sides like you would see with a refill that is too narrow. If anything I’ll just cut it and start a new end. The existing one will show itself eventually lol.
Well, it was exactly as you said, down in the gap in the side. It was weird though, the end was attached to the tape as I was expecting, but it was down in the filament like 1/4 inch. I opened up the second roll I had and it was exactly the same. I had to peel the tape and then pull the filament up out of the gap.
I did wind up respooling both of them. Every time I tried unwinding a bit it to put the filament back on top it was just pulling from deep in the filament winding. I didn’t trust it. They were very loose.
It’s almost as if they were refill filaments that were added to the spools before they packed them up and shipped them.
True. It didn’t just slide under there due to error though. Well at least on my part. It came that way. Whoever’s in charge of putting the pa6-gf spools together at the factory is incompetent lol.
