Anybody that reads the forum enough, for long enough will see a pattern among the “regulars”. Thats the only problem I have. How the regulars treat everybody else. If you’re paying attention, 90% of my posts are in defense of somebody or in defense of how the forum once was. The people I’m defending them from get triggered. Whenever I point these things out, without naming names, the same people come out of the woodworks to respond and the same people always like those comments.
You are rude to almost everybody. Every single day. And never post anything constructive. No new ideas or info. Only attacking people that are having an issue with support or a printer. I read it all. And yes, the mods allow it. Read the ruules and youll understand why I always say this. I repeat these things because they havnt changed and the forum is slowly dying.
Nearly every issue we’ve had(me and the regulars) is because of these same few things. Unfair biased moderation which is obvious when you see the types of posts taken down vs left up. Gaslighting people about the rules, when we can all go read them and and compare to reality. And people being toxic toward new members(gatekeeping) and general fanboyism. Another recent one would be the regulars taking ownership of the forum by trying to shut down any conversation they dont like. You dont have to like it, or post in it. You can just scroll on by and let people talk or express there feelings.
@Josh-3D your post about all the gatekeepers that popped up recently. Who were you talking about?
I would argue that these are just opportunities to claim bias and so on. You claim every disagreement is personal and project that onto other posts. Remember, a lot of us know the Streetsmart way and have seen those posts too.
So this tells you either A. you are wrong or incorrect, or B. we are all out to get you. Which is most likely true?
I disagree. I am blunt and choose to put my opinion out as such. I am not one to let foolishness continue. I think my stats on this forum say that I am helpful and am positive to those that post the same. If you post an obvious biased complaint with generalizations I’m not going to shy away from calling you out. Those people don’t need help, they want to live in an echo chamber.
You see what you want to see. I can promise that IF I were being as you say I’d be banned quickly. Your opinion is not fact. I suggest you learn the difference.
Have you considered how negative you tend to be? Have you thought that your own perceptions are biased? Have you even looked at it through a different lens and try to get along with those you disagree with? I can tell you from many points of view this would be a resounding no. Yet we all still try to get along with you.
I know what you think of me. I tried to reach out, find common ground and you just spewed more of this “woe is me I get in trouble when others don’t” nonsense. You were not even open. If you can find a single word I post to report you will. If I say anything positive about BL, then you scream “shill” and ignore the point. You are your own worst enemy on this forum.
Yet we all still accept you. You are one that I haven’t blocked or muted. I’ve always been able to see some of your conversations as positive and helpful. I’ve tried to have conversations in threads with you and you ignore it, choosing to just disregard anything that’s said. (Edit: This sentence isn’t entirely true. There has been one or three back and forth threads that have been pleasant and helpful to me.)
Now I am harsh at times. I think it’s needed but if I go beyond the rules I hear about it. I accept it, learn from it and move on. I don’t begrudge Jon or PrinterMcGee when it’s happned. I’m not going to pretend a dumb comment isn’t dumb. I’m not going to pretend a grudge is a complaint. I’m not one to shy away from disagreements. Truth be known I scroll past quite a bit that I think is better I stay out of it. However you’re wrong about “us” (not really speaking for anyone but I know that much).
In the end you can try to remove that chip, live with it and continue to be as you are, or leave. It’s really up to you. If you approach me without this bias then I’m game to get along.
Not to pick sides here, but I do agree with this. Not all normal users are rude, not at all, but I have encountered several who treat me like I am stupid, and like my problem is the easiest thing in the world. People come to these forums to seek information and gain printing wisdom. Several times I was told by creators that I was not experienced enough to do something… is that really the attitude we want to have on a forum about 3D printing? A technology that is helping us do impossible things… yet we tell others they cannot do hard things?
The chicken littles found out the sky isn’t falling and found new shinny objects to chase. When I first started reading this forum it was full of those who insisted that Prusa made better machines. They would go on and on about how open source was better, even though most of them, I’m sure, lacked the technical knowhow to take advantage of a truly open source system. Which of course made many of them seem like they were in a cult, even while they were claiming everyone else was in a cult or a fan boy or whatever. I found it weird that fans of a particular product would attack the forum and users of a competing product.
Then there was the A1 cable problem, which has always seemed a bit silly to me. My A1 never caught fire and worked flawlessly throughout the recall period, joking that other peoples’ folly was allowing me to collect the 120 dollar gift card to help pay for the AMS unit for my P1S. A lot of chicken littles where all over the forum telling us how bad the A1 was. Yet the A1 has quietly become the best selling printer on the consumer market. They are at it again, over a few machines that had an electronic component fail. This time almost no one bit the bait and the issue quickly faded away. However, there is an interesting way that Bambu printers utilize electrical power, a topic I find fascinating yet this may not be the forum for such a discussion, especially when the know-it-alls jump in and flood the narrative.
Last year we were embroiled in the controversy surrounding Bambu Lab’s security up-dates. All manner of silliness was spread throughout the forum. There was the fellow who went on and on about how security systems work but was so off that it hurt my brain, especially considering the large numbers who responded as if the guy knew what he was talking about, rather than the clueless nut he clearly was. To me it was so obvious what was at play. Years of lurking around the internet has revealed the pattern that is often repeated, as if many people are little more than trained monkeys set into motion with the impassioned pleas from their favorite influencer(s). One could tell the dupes by the way they confused the public/private concept in computer language with the everyday human to human concept of public and private.
There was a snippet of code that was claimed to have been the smoking gun, showing malfeasance on the part of Bambu Lab. Yet, to me there was no malfeasance. The code, in part, appeared to be sending data to and from an encryption routine - which wasn’t included with the snippet. I asked repeatedly for someone to show me in the code where the malfeasance was. All I got was a list of talking points, over and over again. All over the internet, all over the world and not a single code jockey could show me the malfeasance they were so up in arms against. Yet there were plenty willing to heap all manner of insults upon me, but not one could show the actual malfeasance that had their undies twisted in a knot. Yet here were are, a year later and none of their claims have come true.
It was interesting to note that there were large numbers of people, who most likely didn’t own a Bambu printer, signed up to the forum just to complain about the security changes. And then just as quickly disappeared once a new shinney object directed their attention elsewhere.
I own an H2D and a Prusa Core One, the H2D is recent. I’ve been 3D printing since the Ender days, about 6-7 years ago, but never had an online presence until I started having issues with the Core One I built. I stumbled into forums almost by accident, after mistakenly thinking Reddit was the place to go, only to get drowned out by fanboys. Until I had a problem, there was simply no reason to seek out a community.
The Prusa forums are much more civilized, and I think the reason is pretty straightforward: the community self-polices and the mods do a good job keeping things civil. Trolls show up occasionally but get ostracized quickly. Like here, there are probably at most 10 people who post every day. Prolific contributors do drop off over time… sometimes literally, sometimes just out of boredom, because if you’re not in the 3D printing business, it’s just a hobby, and people move on.
That context is probably why I was surprised to find how small the traffic is here, given Bambu Lab’s market share. My theory: Prusa owners tend to be more experienced, and the kit-building aspect of their printers naturally pushes people to seek help online. Bambu owners, on the other hand, skew newer to the hobby, and with printers that mostly just work out of the box, there’s less reason to go looking for support, or a community.
I’ve been on forums where things got toxic enough that people stopped posting altogether, afraid of being drowned out by the regulars. I’m new here on the BL forum, and I hope it doesn’t head that direction, because the foundation for something good is clearly there.
They’re more consumer driven too. I think a lot of those people probably already belong to communities related to their chosen interest, as the 3d printer is more of a tool vs the object of focus. In the Prusa community, and just outside of Bambu in general, the focus is much more on the printer itself.
I feel like the brand wars side of things have settled down. When I first became part of the community, it was pretty bad.
Every brand has it’s weak and strong points. Even you Creality, even you…
I still use both my Artillery X2’s all the time and with less maintenance than with every Bambu printer i use. With my own Marlin firmware on one since years and the other one with klipper, making it a beast in quality and even in speed.
But i like Bambu printers also. The print and forget of the A1 Mini is the part that still blowns me away every time
Brand loyalty has never made sense to me… a printer is just a tool. I use mine to support my other hobbies, including 3D printing.
I love my Core One because I built it myself, and when something goes wrong, it’s ridiculously easy to repair. I love the H2D for its multi-material capability, larger build volume, and actively heated chamber. Each has its place.
I’m glad there are forums in place that cover both worlds: Prusa and Bambu
If this is referring to what it is now vs before when the forum was filled to the brim with negative energy, there are everal reasons that I can think of off the top of my head.
BL has been proven to be hugely successful. Naysayers and haters lose ground
There are only so many times they can say BL will be doomed if BL doesn’t do exactly as they say.
There are only so many times they can say they are leaving BL for another brand.
By now, those are also well-known by most of the community. Most users have learned to ignore and not feed them.
The forum is healthy as people are still getting help and different opinions are still being exchanged.
I heard Facebook and/or Reddit are still quite rumpus. So maybe these can be the places to go for the “good old time”, unless things have also changed there.
Try Discord. It’s aptly named… I made the mistake of hanging out there for a short time and was drowned out by endless memes and fanboys attacking me for entering their temple and desecrating their holy relics.
I’ve all but given up on posting at this point. Lots of attacks or regulars not taking a second to get the gist of a post. Typically it comes out as a very long reply picking your post apart point by point. Those posts essentially are summed up with: “THIS ONE POINT YOU MADE IS SOOOOOOO WRONG IDIOT!”
When I point this out, the normal response is “Welcome to the Internet, dumba__”. I’m sure the same will happen with this point. I check these forums everyday, but when I want actual help I go elsewhere. Even Reddit is typically better about helping when I need it.
That does happen a good amount. Seeing post that break down another post line by line gives me a migraine. Although in all honesty, I am not going to act like I haven’t done that before.
On the flip side, I have seen a lot of posts where the person that created the topic does not accept advice (or even try), then continue to complain or argue when the answer is given. The post turns into “I am pissed off and I want to complain about it”. And probably 90 percent of those posts are either related to “my model was taken down and I lost points” or “This machine is a POS and I do not want to try and fix it”.
There are a lot of strong opinions in this forum and a lot of the time no one wants to give.
Some people say that more moderation is the answer, but then that just leads to people forming a grudge when their comments are removed.
The moderation of the forum follows the forum guidelines which basically boil down to, “Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.”
I find that people that struggle the most with these guidelines are ones that can’t seem to grasp the concept that if someone has a different opinion or view doesn’t mean that they are personally attacking you. It’s okay for someone to have a different opinion. Seeing and understanding how other people view the world helps us to all grow and be better people in general. People who struggle with this understanding seem to jump to personal attacks and name calling rather than defending and articulating their views with facts that they can back up.
There are other brands in addition to these two. We don’t care if any particular person is doing 3D printing or not, let alone what brand of printers they use, or what slicer they use (another topic of constant fights).
Each of us should use whatever one wants, but be respectful of each other’s choices and views.
Had one of those once. “The Regular” turned my post into 6 separate quotes with a snarky comment or correction on each. I simply informed him I wasn’t interested in the fight he was trying to pick with me, and wished him a lovely day.
If you look at the list of new posts when you log in you’ll frequently see the same few avatars on most of them. A lot of those people inhabit my block list as they seldom have anything relevant or useful to add, even when their replies aren’t downright insulting.
As someone lamented in another thread… yes, sadly gatekeepers are alive and well on this forum.
LOL, why not just use my name? Doesn’t bother me.
You’re upset with me over you insisting BL owes you something over filament not being in stock and your inability to plan ahead. I accept that. Sorry your feelings were hurt.
Yep, know that too well. On another forum there was a guy who decided to step on every one of my posts. When we called him out for being wrong on many occasions, he would just double down. Thankfully these people seldom last long and take their trouble elsewhere. Conversely there are forums I’m on that are so heavily moderated that anything that devolves into personal attacks or politics is immediately deleted by the mods.
I had a post that was flagged simply because I stated: “It’s winter and I’m wearing short sleeves, this can’t be normal” It was flagged for “political content”
