The irony of Bambu PETG HF: It’s so good you can’t actually buy it

I think the biggest problem with Bambu PETG HF is that it’s actually too good. The print quality is easily the best I’ve seen, but I’ve had to resort to inferior brands because Bambu is constantly sold out.

Today I found out why. While looking for restocks, I stumbled across at least five different third-party sites scalping PETG HF for $30–$40 a roll. It seems scalpers are buying up the stock the moment it hits the store just to flip it for double the price. It’s a shame that such a great product is being made inaccessible by the secondary market.

Yeah, that sucks. I’ve been trying to get some for weeks with no luck. In the interim I’m managing to get some good results with Overture PETG but it is a bit of a pain.

Try Polymaker.

It was in stock a few hours ago - I got the email, most of the PETG HF colors were available. Sorry if you missed it but I did manage to get the one color I was low on that is hard to find a match for so I could finish a the remaining plates on a big project.

That’s some solid timing! Glad you were able to snag that specific color to wrap up your project—nothing worse than being a short on a project and stuck in limbo.

I wasn’t quite fast enough on the draw this time, so I’ve actually got some Anycubic PETG on the way to test out. I’m curious to see how the flow and finish compare to the HF stuff. Hopefully, it’s a good fallback so I don’t have to stalk my inbox as much next time!"

Polymaker is reliable, but their neutral color selection is pretty limited and the types of projects I’m doing. I need more variety in those ‘natural’ tones.

I’m the only one in history who really liked their PETG basic better than the PETG HF. I have dozens of rolls of the HF stuff I bought when it first came out, and I don’t use it. I just go right to ABS if I need something better than PLA. PETG HF just messes up for me more often than it works. I still have a few rolls of the PETG basic, and I just printed with it the other day. Made 4 parts I needed in a hurry when the spool of PETG HF I tried created 3 failed prints in a row. On a bambu A1 mini with the Bambu PETG HF profile.

Polymaker petg [not polylite - they have two] has been quite nice.

And honestly I find most budget petg [kingroon, jayo] to be ok after you send it through the dryer two or three times.

Let us know how that brand turns out. I’m perfectly fine with any brand its the colors that can paint you into a corner, no pun intended.

I never actually got the chance to try their PETG Basic, which is a shame because I would’ve loved to put it through its paces. I tend to stick to PETG since I don’t have a way to safely vent ABS fumes outdoors—it’s just not worth the risk without the right setup!

I’ve noticed the same thing—the market is flooded with bright, shiny colors, but the ‘earthy’ neutrals like creams and matte browns are so rare. Even Bambu’s selection is lacking there, which makes finishing professional-looking projects a real challenge!

I don’t vent it outside, but I have an air cleaner, and the printers are in the basement and I don’t go down there really other than for brief moments while the printers are active.

Also, I’ve worked in an injection molding plant for 30 years, and we run parts from all the nasty resins. I smelled ABS every day, and have had no ill effects.

I havent tried Bambu PETG HF yet, but I’ve had good luck with Elegoo Rapid PETG. It prints well using either the Bambu or the Generic PETG HF settings. And it’s cheaper than Bambu’s.

Room with no windows?

Admittedly I used to live on a boat, and it would have been hard to vent from some of the cabins at or below the waterline.

Kind of, the room where the printer is located only has an exterior door and since I’m a renter I can’t drill holes in the wall / door

everyone must be having better luck than me, since my H2D cannot print PETGHF without giving me little zits on the walls.

.6 nozzle (Tungsten carbide)

Dried plenty

Calibrated flow rate and flow dynamics.

Tried increasing and decreasing temp.

Print slowly

I’m just getting nowhere really. It may be something I have to tweak in the default retraction settings or zhop, because that’s really the only section I have not been thorough with, that I’m aware of.

This is really frustrating.. 3 times I have logged in on the date the filament was suppose to be in stock and all 3 days all I see is a later date.. Middle of a multi part print and need PETG HF Gray and can’t get a roll.. I had to pay a scalper $35.00 just to get one to finish my print (I hope one roll does it). Does anyone know who makes their filament it might be easier to buy from them. I can’t believe it’s this hard to buy filament. If there restock is this bad. I am going to have to move to something else. I used Sunlu TPU and it worked great in my printer.. is there PETG pretty good?

I think this has to do with Bambu bringing their filament manufacturing inside and letting their existing stock dwindle while they try to ramp up their own manufacturing. My brother has been waiting for some filament from them for months. I have just went elsewhere.

I checked my stock, and the only grey I have is a new refill roll of dark grey PETG-HF. I don’t use it, so I’d be happy to get rid of this stuff at cost+ship to anyone who needs it.

I found that when the notification email hits you have less than 5 minutes to buy, not just put in your cart but buy. It’s a sad state of affairs for sure as I’ve switched almost exclusively to PETG and Ifor me BL PETG HL prints the best; Almost zero stringing/hairs and results are smooth.

I’ve also used Sunlu PETG and after I tweaked the profile a bit it’s pretty decent. I had a horrible experience with Overture PETG; stringing, blobs, surface imperfections. Used a whole roll trying to get the recipe right and would up returning 6 spools. Yet others have had good luck with it…

I dry it whatever the AMS HT with whatever the default is on the screen and have not had any problems using unmodified settings. I have not tried with the .6 WC nozzles but have seen zits when I first printed an undried PETG HF making a swatch before drying and also when I ran in faster than standard modes in PLA and PETG with factory .4 nozzles.
