I think the cover image must show a photo of the printed model. If AI is used to make the background for the photo of the printed model, it is fine. However, no AI or render should be used as the cover.
MyMiniFactory acquired Thingiverse and vowed to remove all AI contents from it. While I disagree with that as I believe AI contents have their place, I admire their unequivocal stance.
I would like to see a clear rule / statement from @MakerWorld on what is acceptable as cover images. If a photo of the printed model is not required, and anything goes, then clearly say so.
Then all of us can let our imagination go wild and turn the model pages into a gallery of AI images. We can put Midjourney’s Community Feed (Explore Page) to shame
This thread is about model image rule though. I am not concerned if a model was made using AI or not, as long as a photo of the printed model is used as the cover image.
Exactly that. I know I’m repeating myself, but that was the reason for bringing up the topic. I am not against AI - it has its place in certain workflows. I am also not part of any “AI police”. My point is that when I click on a cover, I expect to get what it promises - which is impossible at the moment.
It feels like half the time, when I click on something, I immediately close it again because the 3D model doesn’t match the cover - it’s just annoying. That’s why I prefer to use Cults, for example. I’d rather pay a few dollars to support the creator than dig through the current pile of fake covers.
