This is kind of a general question more than specific troubleshooting thing.
Can you trust slicer if you go layer by layer?
I’ve been racking my brain on why slicer says it’s laying down one color and I’m literally watching it extrude another between multi-color texts. I get that it would take a lot of filament changes but It’s confounding to me why I see one thing and another thing happens…
This isn’t the first time I’ve run into issues either with alignments or temps either.
So is slicer really just like really close or is there a way to get a true preview?
Some screenshot really would help but I’ll take a crack at some guesses.
First thing come to mind is conflicts between painted colors and filament selected color. This can occur if painted color doesn’t quite reach facet boundaries.
For multiple colored letters and if you’re painting them individually, you will face challenges, not to mention tedium. If you’re able to separate the letters into individual parts and select a specific filament for each part, you may get better results. Even painting gets easier when there’s a lot of facets to fill.
That said, the Preview screen with the “Color scheme” set to “Filament” should be an accurate representation of what the printer will do. If it’s not then we’re definitely going to need more data to help.
Here’s the simplest example I can make regarding layer colors. Another prior issue is that I used M109 R Temps to have the hotend wait for temp reductions. Slicer showed the temp tower at different temps properly, but the unit never changed temps so it just ignored the command.
Just seems like it’s a best effort slicer and not a perfect reproduction of what the machine will do. It would be nice to see somehow see the exact movements during the print as stepping through intra and inter layer laydown in slicer doesn’t hold true in this case.
My guess of what is going on here is carryover from incorrectly flushing each filament between changes. In Bambu Studio on the left hand side just above the filament types there is a “Flushing Volumes” button. If you click that it will open a window with the flushing volumes for each filament in respect to other filaments. The issue is that for some reason the “Multiplier” field at the bottom often defaults to 0. Set it to 1 and recalculate. Then reslice the model. This should fix your issue.
Your guess was right and that did fix the problem. I guess it also confirms my original suspicion that slicer isn’t as accurate as I would hope. It’s a pretty big flaw that layers painted has no concept of flush volumes when using the AMS. When set to 0 I’m not sure why it even bothered creating the prime tower vs. pooping to be honest.
But anyways, thank you for solving this for me. Greatly appreciated.
