The yellow extruder wheel getting small snags

For about month now I am getting really bad prints. While printing, I can see the head moving but no plastic will be layed down and then it will start going again. Lines and lines without extrusion and then it picks up again. Firs I thought I had a clog so I did a cold pull and took the extruder apart and blew it out with air. It printed ok for a print and then started the same thing. I removed the extruder again and just spun the yellow wheel free hand and every once and a while it just stops and I have to give is slight pressure to move. It feels like it is getting snagged on something but for the life of me I can not find it.
I completely took the extruder apart and oiled the gears. still does it. Any where I can look that a normal disable will not find? this is starting to make me pull the rest of my hair out.

Can you share a photo of the wheel and another the extruder with the wheel removed?

It think it may be this right here.
The gears here on this one have some pretty sharp edges. I wonder if this is just wearing out.
I found tons micro debris at the bottom of those teeth. I clean it out with a brush and thought that may have fixed it, but it didn’t. then I felt the teeth and they were rough. Thinking I need a new extruder.

This normally occurs when you are using filaments with additives.

These include (not a complete list):

  • Carbon Fibre
  • Glass Fibre
  • Glow
  • Sparkle

You should consider swapping to a hardened steel nozzle and the gears.

For just the gears.

When slicing, tell Studio (or Handy) you have installed a hardened steel nozzle.

It looks to me like you need a new drive gear set.

you can see how warn they are there are two that grab the actual filament. Hold one and see how much the other wiggles. that is backlash. The backlash should be close to zero. the worst part is waiting to the replacement.

good luck

Is that the yellow part? that is what I just ordered off of the site, I could not find the other part to purchase

I have the harden steel nozzle, Just didn’t purchase the gears. :frowning:

it comes as a set. all the gears.

I don’t know if this is the right one for your printer,

At least you have the experience of pulling it apart.

I found it time consuming watching video, pausing, waiting for my tremors to ease a little, rinse and repeat.

I still have three more printers to go.
