Thee Battleship competition is full of non-battleships

I can acknowledge them, but i can also read the contest page, there is nothing on there that says it has to follow your narrow definition of a battleship, you don’t have to like it, you don’t even have to agree with it, but, you DO have to accept what is written and the fact that bambu isn’t removing the things you don’t think fit the theme

Now you’re free to keep whining about the dictionary definition of battleship, or you can accept what the contest page says and move on with your life

Do you understand what context is? Read the entire thing instead of picking a small component out of it. That is one sentence, you can not take one small part of it and decide that is what you are going to follow.

More than you apparently, they never once specify that all models must only be the english dictionary definition of battleship

So, you can continue to disagree, but given that makerworld is not removing these models its safe to say they think its fine, this must be your first contest, you’ll get the hang of it eventually, anyway, you have fun stamping your feet and screaming in to the void because people aren’t following what YOU think should be here rather than what the CONTEST ORGANISERS think should be there

You already know you do not have a strong argument.

When you rely on name calling and insults like a 3rd grader on the playground, you already lost.

I know the contests can be frustrating. They have always given a lot of wiggle room with the relevancy. Just by the name of this competition you can assume that anything naval or ship (space or ocean) related will be allowed. On your list the “hex box” should be removed, the creator of that one looks to be about 11 years old, and the Bender from Futurama should go. If you look at the account that posted that one the whole account is a scam just to get points. The most anyone can do is report the ones they don’t believe are relevant and let MW decide.

I haven’t called you any names or issued any insults, i’ve pointed out what you’re doing, and i’ve already given you the exact wording on the theme page, like i said, you don’t have to like it, but you do have to accept it, or like i said continue stomping and screaming in to the void, if pointing out what you’re doing is insulting to you, then you might want to consider not doing it

Bambu makes the rules and bambu has decided those models are fine, this isn’t a new thing, it just appears to be your first encounter with something that doesn’t meet your highly specific definitions

Either way, you have fun with that i guess, you aren’t willing to listen to reason and you just seem to want to get angry, so which model in the contest is yours out of interest? because you seem heavily invested in this one

Its really not wiggle room given what they are allowing

That is opening up the entire highway

I hear you, and I get where you’re coming from… in English, a “battleship” has a really specific meaning, so it feels off when you see pirate ships or sci-fi cruisers thrown into the mix.

That said, this contest is run by MakerLab (part of Bambu Labs, a Chinese company), and I don’t think English was their first thought when naming it. From what I remember of the language (spent a few years working there), the Chinese word they’re thinking of (戰/战) leans more toward “combat/fight” than just a strict ship class. So “battleship” in their heads may have come across closer to “warship” or “fighting ship.”

Kind of a “lost in translation” thing. Like how German Fleisch covers both meat and flesh, French papillon de nuit is a moth but literally a “night butterfly,” or how “dragon shrimp” in Chinese is just a lobster. Literal words don’t always land the same way in another language.

So yeah, you’re not wrong about the definition… but the contest seems to be playing it a bit looser (as always), letting creative builds fly. Word to the wise, "Don’t hate the player, hate the game. :slightly_smiling_face:

Paper absorbs water, a boat, yes, but for how long?

I’m enjoying it just as much.

I’ve given up reporting unless it is blatantly nothing to do with the Contest descriptor, for the most part the scam (that is entering for exposure not because it is competition topic consistent) model upload is left untouched if it has the slightest possibility of connection to the topic. Fortunately these micreants never win the competition.

I’ve added my submission, I hope it’s to all of your standards…

No, we have spoken about this, no quality models. It makes the rest of us look bad.

It’s definitely up to mine, but this is a tough room.

Those ships don’t appear to be battlely enough. Needs more ka-bloomys and many many more ka-powys. Toss in a ka-blamo for good measure.

Who could ka-blamo a cute lil’ face like that! Question: can you use cake instead of kinetic sand and eat what falls out?
