Thermistor short circuit - printer constantly shows hotend at 318

Long story short, I broke the thermistor wires and it short circuited. After replacing the hotend, plugin everything in and turning on, the printer is showing a temp reading of 318˚ constantly. Oddly, the printer isn’t showing any error messages.

Printer: X1C

  • I have tried checking the connectors
  • I have tried a different hotend
  • I have tried resetting to factory settings.

I think I’ve reached replacing a board as next step. In the screenshot you can see the disconnect cable, whether or not it’s plugged in has no effect. Which board would I likely need to replace to fix this.


IMO this is something you should open a ticket for. There’s probably a way to probe the motherboard for what it is receiving from the toolhead board, to disambiguate which one is now in a bad state.

Order a new TH board — you probably damaged the original one during your short circuit.

It’s interesting to me that it shows 318. My understanding is that the max for the X1C is 300 and the X1E is 320. Possibly that is some temp failsafe that tells the printer to stop heating. (the no error part is wierd)
This is someone who had a similar but not exact issue and ended up having to replace the extruder board also.

So if just replacing the TH doesn’t do it you may have to go the ticket/logs route.
