Three quick thoughts and one question on the new community feature

@Makerworld

  1. I love the idea about giving my followers a heads up on upcoming projects, thank you for this.

  2. It would be great if we could edit our posts.

  3. I already miss the “Maker’s Supply” link at the top of the page. Any chance we could get a link to the store added back to the main page?

Yes please, this.

My flow tended to be to go to Maker World, and then click on the Maker’s Supply link. Haha.

For something so important to Maker world, having the Maker Supply link right there was best, I feel.

Yes! Bring back the store link!

As for the the community page I don’t see myself using it. Just looks like some self promoting facebook type feed that’s being updated every minute.

Isn’t that the whole point of it? To provide self-promotion and possibly model updates?

The page will work for those with followings but as we’ve come to expect with MW it’s half-baked and it’s gonna turn into a pigsbreakfast before the days out.

"Cancel the time-limited points task “Boost a Model”

In the early stage of the Boost incentive mechanism, we provided the time-limited points task of “Give a boost to a model” to help users quickly get familiar with giving a boost to their favorite models. After nearly half a year, the points issued under the boost incentive have already exceeded those of the points incentive for model printing and downloading, which indicates this task has achieved its mission. We will cancel this time-limited points task and may add other points tasks in the future to encourage the community activity of users."

Yeah… This sux! Remove the only incentive to post complicated functional models that are of high quality. Guess I’ll just scrap my three ongoing projects.

Yes, I love the community feature already! However, I noticed an issue with the textbox functionality. When I use Ctrl+Z to undo while typing a post, the words get jumbled up in random order. Even after correcting it, when I press post, it shows the jumbled-up version. I had to delete and start over to get it right.

I can just see it as the same 30 people who are trending daily making a new post every 15 min saying. “hey be sure to check out my models, give a boost(well with that going away maybe not), give a follow, like, patreon…etc”

I think it’s refering to the 2 points one gets at giving a Boost, no the points value of a Boost.

I like the feed portion well enough. It’ll get a little crazy, I’m sure. Checking on the following sub group though is awesome. I see post from y’all, talking about your recently released and upcoming releases and yeah! I like this, I like it a lot. This very well will become one of my stops on Makerworld.

My front page is awesome. I guess. Haha. I like the selection of stuff it shows me, and the for me section is usually pretty good. It’s a good for discovery. This fills the other gap though, as I want to know what’s going on with the peeps I follow, more specifically. I do follow them for a reason, after all.

Hehe, dumb side story. Sometimes if I’m looking for a generic-ish model, and there’s a number of good choices. Sometimes I’ll choose based on if one of them follows me! Sometimes none of them do, and it’s like com’on. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Hehe, can’t win 'em all.

Well, if you block a user then, would it stop their messages from showing up in the feed?

I could see this being an issue, but I mean yeah, if you can block 'em, then that at least gives some course of action to deal with it.

You’re being way to positive this morning or my coffee just hasn’t kicked in yet.

I just boosted someone and I did not receive the 2 points.

@josh, did you receive points from the Boost I just gave you?

I would really love their communications to actually communicate details.

When I read it first time, it looked like Boosts had been removed entirely,

It will be interesting to think about how the new community feature will change the dynamic of follows. For lack of a better expression, I think this will “reshuffle the deck” a little bit in terms of who follows who.

Before this feature, following only allowed people to see new models from their favorite creators in the mobile app. Now creators are tasked with deciding what content will steer more followers towards their models.

I’ve been thinking through what the right cadence is of posting and what my content should be for a while since we’ve been chatting about it on the forum for a while.

Will designers get unfollows due to over-posting and spamming? Will non-designers get more followers because they do design reviews as posts? A lot of fun what-ifs to think through with this feature.

Looks like it is as you say, I just got a boost, (and points). Sorry for misinterpreting :see_no_evil:

I also received one after the announcement. I just wasn’t sure if it beat a cut off point or not.

If they had cancelled Boosts after forcing it down our throats, that would have been dumb.

I am a morning person, having a great morning, and I had my cup of coffee

I think it’s probably the me being way too positive, hahaha.

@MalcTheOracle I did get it! I think it’s just the bonus points from giving boost out.

I could see this. I mean, previously, the follow function didn’t really offer much other than letting the designer know they’re liked.

I bet it could cause some people to unfollow, if a given designer tends to post an excessive amount of updates, or spam. I think it’s all kind of off to the side enough though that it probably wouldn’t be a huge issue for most. It’s not like when you go to facebook or a social site, where that stuff gets spammed right into your face as soon as you walk in the door.

Also, in case you missed it.

As far as I have found so far, you either get the feed from everyone jumbled up, feeds from all those you follow jumbled up, but I have not found where you can see just those posts a specific user has posted.

Am I missing something?

I was expecting users to be able to look at their followers and the focus on a specific designer it they wanted.

This jumbled timeline list will be saturated extremely quickly.

Without a designer level list, it will be impossible to have a vote with reasonable responses as it will have come and gone in minutes.

I also expected it to be on my designer home page with my models there at the same time.

This is a twitter (insert all other social feeds) list.

I missed it. Only got the later message and not that one. Thanks for sharing
