I’ve discovered that when you assign an image for a collection thumbnail, it “recommends” a 1:1 aspect ratio and if you provide a 4:3 aspect ratio image, it crops it to make it 1:1. But then, everywhere it uses the thumbnail, it shows it as a 4:3 aspect ratio and crops the cropped image back to 4:3.
