Well on one hand its BambuLab/Makerworld decision how to do things on their site and how to manage it.
The point system is a reward for the things you upload but its not a “we have to” thing to give you actually points at all.
The biggest issue are the bots/scammer or even the designer that create 10 times the same model and make 30 remixes of it. Trying to drain the point system like a dying cow.
Its everyone own decision to stay on Makerworld or move on other sites and i can promise you that, other sites are even more ruthless than you can imagine.
Be happy that makerworld is being like this and actually rewarding you without even wanted something back from you. Imagine that you have give 5% of your points to makerworld each time you upload a model like on other sites.
If you got the mindset to become rich on makerworld with points thats on you.
Im kinda tired of people flaming the makerworld topics with “points missing” etc threads because it seems like people are more worried about “earning points” than improving in their modelling.
I can promise you that if you make more exceptional models and upload it you gonna earn better here.
After checking 2-3 Profiles here and seeing that they post 4x the same model basically and that model has 200k different models on makerworld im not surprised at all that the punish hammer fells on them…
Maybe im too realistic or too strict. I still have the military mindset of “if 1 guy makes a mistake, everyone is going to suffer fairly”.
I haven’t mentioned points anywhere (until now). Nor do I state I deserve anything or that I’m entitled or that I could make more points elsewhere.
My posts are about either an error in the system counting downloads or the system is deliberately cutting off downloads when you reach a certain number each day.
The download stats shouldn’t be altered, we should see the actual numbers. What should be done and already is done is that points gathering should be adjusted to whatever BL can payout.
And on that topic, I can see on my popular models that I get less and less points for my downloads and prints each month. And as they are also tinkering with the download stats I get even less points I assume.
We are generating income for BL, I can see that from my stats. I can track how many models are printed on BL printers and most likely a large part of those are also using BL filaments. Tens of thousands of hours print time and hundreds of rolls of filament have been used for my models. The points can be considered as a commission for all that.
This is not a oneway street, it is a cooperation, we give and we get and BL gets and gives.
That is intentional.
I might and probably will. So what’s it to you if others discuss download stats and points? You don’t seem to care either way.
Policy is one thing. If the point system disappears today, no big deal, thats their right.
This is an issue of transparency over all else.
Btw, this comment is not directed at @Ogi3D and I will not be responding to Ogi3D in order to maintain community order.
Why is what others do so important to you? There is a button at the bottom if each thread - Normal, Watching, Tracking, & Muted.
Your nirvana of not wanting to hear people complain about points is entirely in your control.
Set those threads to Muted and get on with your bad self.
You have the power. Use it. Don’t just complain for others to do something, conform to your preferences, or whatever.
Take care of it yourself. It’s your chance to manifest the world you want.
I don’t have to prove anything to you.
Two people in this thread know my profile and can look into prints, print hours and filament use for those prints. Easy to calculate as hours and weights and print stats are available.
Any names you find on MW that are similar to the one I use here have nothing to do with me.
And as I said, other people know about my account. Up to you to believe me or not. I don’t care.
So let’s leave it at that, OK?
I’ve read this post and I had a brain seizure.
I’m confused; aren’t they wanting your model to drive traffic to their site? I agree they don’t have to, but you implied this isn’t a benefit for both parties. There is also a reason they have created better rewards for “exclusive” models…
So you went from ‘just make exceptional models, and you’ll earn points’ to ’ it’s a lottery where 20-hour designs get beat by 5-minute CAD files’ in the span of a few posts.
You just proved the point of the people you were criticizing: the system feels inconsistent. Liking Bambu’s printers doesn’t mean creators can’t point out when the platform’s incentives stop making sense.
I do not think Makerworld is the right site for commercial-levels of income but it might be OK to keep a hobbyist in filaments if the utter the correct prayers and incantations to the Bambu algorithm.
I think Mysticmesh3d’s Patreon is a good example of someone (or is a group with multiple sculptors?) making a full time salary on MW-type models. Patreonstats calculates their income at around 10K a month. It’s literally just dragon heads, tea lights, picture frames and all that.
I know personally some professionals selling though Cults3d and MyMiniFactory but they are making deeply niche products that require specialised skills.
