I have noticed that if several objects of differing heights are printed on the same plate the top layer speed of the lowest object is then used for all further layers on the remaining objects.
Most interstingly, this fault exists in Prusaslicer which suggests to me it in is the core original slc3r application on which both Prusaslicer and Bambu Studio are based.
example: two objects: one is 1mm tall and the other is taller (0.2mm layers), layer 1 prints slowly on both, layers 2,3,4 print fast on both. Layer 5 prints slowly and then every additoinal layer on the remaining objects prints at that same slow speed.
Has anyone seen this? is there a fix? thank you for any help or advice.

Hi Adam,
There are settings in the filament profiles (Cooling section) to determine a minimum printing time for a layer. When there’s not much to print on a given layer, the filament will not have as much time to cool before the next layer is deposited. So one strategy is to slow down all the printing on that layer (and usually bump up the part cooling fan). With multiple objects being printed the layer time would be naturally slower, but once it’s down to just one object to print, the overall time for a layer will be reduced.
Could that be what you’re seeing?

That makes sense, however, if I print only the taller object it prints fast all the way up. It does look to me that the final top layer speed of the lowest object is adopted for all subsequent layers on remaining objects.

That makes sense also, I’d expect the taller object by itself to print slower as well. So something is going on there… Good to know.
Can you upload a project that recreates this?
I tried with a fresh H2C project, a couple cylinders, and default BL profiles. Only modified the top surface speed. It seems to work as expected, in this scenario at least. Would be interesting to track down what triggers the issue, especially across slicers!

Thanks for the example. But all I’m seeing is the minimum layer time I was describing. Printing just the taller part by itself slows the whole thing down. Also the top layer speed on the shorter part is faster than what it uses to continue printing the taller part afterwards.
