I am a veteran Prusa user who recently purchased an X2D (about a month ago). I am experiencing consistent top surface defects on large, full-bed prints (mostly signs). Specifically, the top surface appears underextruded in the center of the bed and overextruded in the corners.
Setup & Calibration Details:
Build Plate: Glacier plate (flat, no warping or lifting observed).
Filament: Issue occurs across brands, though Bambu Lab filament performs slightly better than third-party options.
Flow Dynamics ¶: K-factor calibrated to 0.025.
Flow Ratio: Kept at stock 0.98 (tested variations, but stock looks best).
Attached are photos showing the corner-to-center variance. Please let me know what hardware or slicer adjustments you recommend to resolve this!
Looking at pictures, there’s no warping on the model itself but when printing large volume models, due to plate stress and material shrinkage, the plate almost always will warp a bit. In this example, corners will be higher so defects looks like overextrusion (nozzle too close to the model), close to the middle it’s opposite. These are just my assumptions but it’s a rather common issue on Bambu printers. As for slicer settings, you can try with changing top surface flow ratio (under quality, you have to turn on develop mode in preferences) an play around with “only one wall on top surfaces”.
Thank you for the reply. I will try and keep an eye out for this. I am going to print some bed plate clamps also and see if that helps resolve the issue.
