TPU and Bambu's Fix. What's coming next?

There is no doubt that the printing capablites of TPU printing on the H2D suffer drastically. Now printing TPU is hard on any printer but for a $2000 printer I expect better results. I heard recently Bambu is working on a fix for this. Can anybody confirm that?

Which TPU are you referring to?

  • TPU for AMS (68D) is easiest
  • TPU 95A is easy
  • TPU 90A (new) can be ā€˜interesting’
  • TPU 85A (new) takes effort

Almost all of them work on almost all of the BL printers.

All except the TPU 85A works on the A1 mini, a very cheap printer.

Please, describe what problems you are experiencing, are they H2D specifically, which printers and which TPU versions have you tried on the other BL printers.

Exactly what malc said. Ill only add that its only the right nozzle though. Big downside

I’m getting Fantastic prints with TPU 85,90,95, TPU for AMS with the H2D. Lol Looks better than PETG-HF.

You must have some sort of resistance on the TPU. Do you have an example of what’s going on?

If you can post pics, we can help troubleshoot. Also help the figure out if you need to open a ticket or not.

Bambu 95A TPU prints fantastic on my H2D. It’s a pain to route it constantly, I’m working on a y-adapter to fix that… the current process/workflow really seems like an afterthought from Bambu.

Im gonna go out on a limb and assume OP watched an uncle jessie video (and other similar ones) where he yells like a child ā€œTPU is hard! common bambu!ā€ and just parroting those questionable sentiments.

As other have mentioned TPU for AMS and the most common TPU 95A print like a dream on the H2D. There are a bunch of solution to make it plug and play and hassle free:

Both 90A and 85A were always more challenging to print (hence not used very often in 3D printing) and there is no other printer that has solved that issue. Its not a printer design issue, but a property of the ultra soft high friction material.

If however I am wrong with my assumption and OP is having actual print issues, I will apologize ahead of time. Please post photos and description of actual print problem and we will help you fix it.

I don’t think printing TPU is problematic. Even the soft stuff works well when you follow the directions given to you. Bambu has done a lot of work to hone in a repeatable performance. The problem is, the instructions can be very annoying. Because of the difficulty of improving this process, I believe Bambu has largely gone the lengths they are willing to go. So… complaints are largely falling on deaf ears. If you climb up on that hill, you will die on it. There simply doesn’t appear to be any appetite to make this experience any better. To be honest… I do expect Bambu to make small improvements (maybe even some low cost hardware add-ons), but nothing significant.

Maybe a couple of generations down the road we can expect some refinement, but for now, I feel you are just going to have to deal with it.

I am printing with TPU 90A which I love. All prints worked excellent so far.
I also use TPU for AMS which is as easy to print.

Even letting TPU 90A 3 Days on open air, there was no ā€œbad printā€ due to ā€œbe dryed beforeā€. It just works perfectly. Coolest Material I ever printed with.

I love the strength of TPU. The harder ones don’t bend as much but can still take a beating before breaking (actually, I haven’t broken one yet).

X1C is a tpu champion. All it was missing was a way to do more than one color/hardness in one print. Hopefully h2d V2 does.

Hi
I have a problem with the tpu 90A
basically I loaded it on the left hotend on ext but it doesn’t let me update the material in the device section in any way
I deactivated the ams2 as specified but nothing
it loads all the other filaments regularly but this one doesn’t
how can I solve it?

Can’t (shouldn’t) put TPU on the left nozzle.

Why is the right nozzle only a ā€œbigā€ downside? I don’t mind it so much, I use support on the left and print my TPU on the right.

It was a huge missed opportunity. Imagine printing more than one color or hardness of tpu at the same time. Like a prusa xl

I could see that, I guess I’m so new at printing TPU that I don’t think of multi color because worrying about extruder clogs on 2 nozzles would stress me out. :grimacing:

Ok so… heres an interesting take.
I got the H2D because my production revolves around TPU 90%.
85% of incoming tpu in my country is coming to me. Various hardnesses from 95 to 83, TPU, TPS, TPE.

I print multicolor tpu’s for over a year now, and honestly, I thought the dual nozzle would be perfect for the cause, but alas, in the end its just a single nozzle printer if TPU is regarded.
Nice machine nonetheless, even with the issues im fighting currently and which bambu wont aknowledge apparently, but still a nice machine. Just not what the first impression implies…

but I put the ams on the right, so the tpu can only be used on the right?

You can probably cheat the system where this is concerned (haven’t tried it though). Simply tell it that you are printing PLA in the left nozzle by using a TPU profile that is labeled PLA. You will need to preload the left nozzle, but once loaded it will stay loaded. The left nozzle issue is mostly the unconstrained section that tends to let TPU wonder, so once you fiddle with it to load it, you should be able to do the 2 color printing pretty seamless. That said… you may need to disable retraction if you get odd buckling.
