I am trying to direct feed tpu into my P1S so I can print with it without having to worry about the external spool holder and stuff and I have a mount-type thing to put it on, but my only question is, how do I put the filament into the hot end now? Do I just remove the PTFE tubing? I think that’s it but I want to check before I do something possibly dumb. Thanks for any help!
Yep.
Can you elaborate or show a picture of the device you plan on feeding the spool?
If by removing the PTFE tube from the back of the printer but keeping the PTFE tube from the hotend to the external feed, the answer is yes, and that’s how I run my TPU and other filaments every day on my P1. However, if you have somehow set up another feed mechanism, such as feeding the spool through the top opening as this very recent mod suggests, then as you can see, it can be done. The only advantage that I see to this top-down approach would be that one could, in theory, feed almost anything softer than TPU 90 through the nozzle. However, if it were me, I would still at least leave a 40 mm piece of TPU sticking out of the top of the hotend to further reduce friction as it enters the hotend.
Yep. I just did that top down method, and it worked ok. I kinda figured it out. Thanks for all the help guys! ![]()
