Does anyone have any tricks for printing a TPU liner inside a model with a hard outer shell printed in situ? If you’ve done it, did you design a separate shell or just use a slightly scaled modifier? Looking to do this with my H2D.
Whatever you do, activate beam interlocking, unless you want that liner to be removable.
You can use the paint tool to paint on the liner. If you use PETG the TPU will bond to it. If you use another filament turn on beam interlocking as the other person mentioned. Put the prime tower near the print to avoid stringing issues. Here is a PETG item with 95A liner I recently printed, great for preventing scratches and increased durability.
Does this give you one layer of TPU? I have a similar need to the OP and wondering how I could force a few layers to have more “squish” in that area. ![]()
If using Bambu Studio, there is a setting called “Paint penetration layers”
It’s not perfect but you can try to constrain it to x layers
Using the paint tool it will have some depth. What I do is increase the walls and infill to adjust how flexible I want it to be. With high infill percentage TPU can be quite stiff, even 95A. Another way to do it if you only want the TPU a couple of layers deep is to use a modifier.

Paint penetration settings have never worked for me.
I prefer to model the TPU liner in to the model. Basically, take the model, use a thicken add of a new part on the inner surface and a Boolean remove of the original model to leave you with 2 parts with zero offset. Then export them together where they come to the slicer together but the slicer will recognize them as as 2 parts. Then choose the TPU part and select your TPU filament slot.
