Transparent PLA problems

Hello all, sorry for making another transparent filament post, but I have read every forum post and am a bit stuck.

Here is my print! its so close to working, I get nice areas of i would say almost a perfect finish, but then i have these random bits that stick out.

I am doing exactly what the wiki says, plus ironing at 7% (and 20mm/s).

I have also tried to change my extrusion on my filament to 1.02 to try and fill in space better.

Any ideas for what could be causing my problem?

Ironing isn’t perfect, it’s never going to look 100%.

So would it be better to try this without ironing?
Trying that rn we’ll see.

Have you seen this? It is one of mine after experimentation.

It was created before the recent PLA Translucent launch.

I have printed a lot with the new material and have not experienced your results.

I rarely use ironing with any filament, although I have done so for a pending model. That is due to the complications of screw holes, which change the direction of flow and make it look weird.

This is one of a family of models I designed that used the new filaments throughout.

Will try your settings next!

this is without ironing, it seems we have the same finish (ish?) where you can still see layer lines

WOW your speed is high haha, im running the whole thing at 20mm/s

You will always see layer lines.

Ironically, with translucent filament, it becomes more obvious.

The objective is to mitigate it.

You can use creams after sanding the surfaces, or if not possible (your model) an aerosol.

This has been recommended in the past.

You will notice from my photos that the translucent effect is best seen when placed onto something to see it shine through.

I aimed to get a good outcome without the speed penalty.

Literally bought a similar thing this morning to see if it would help.

I’ll try to go faster once i get a consistent result slowly.

So in your mind, the results I have now are as good as it gets?

I do not have your 3mf to know that or test it.

But, I would suggest that getting better may involve more than printing tweaks, the aerosol for example.

So if I understand you correctly. You read through “all” the posts on transparent printing and you would like to know how to go from this:

to this:

or possibly even something as ambitious as this 25x25x25mm cube:

I’ll say a good chunk of em instead to be safe
Those look awesome! but I don’t want to sand these. Trying to make a kickstarter project and I don’t want to spend a BUNCH of time on the tiles for individual work.

Fair enough. But it’s worth pointing out that very few things can be printed in a single run that someone else would actually pay for. As with any product, perceived value—real or imagined—is what drives sales. After all, diamonds are plentiful and can be manufactured, yet people still pay a premium for them. The question isn’t just what you can print quickly, but whether someone else sees value in it. And in most cases, that value depends heavily on time, talent, and perception.

You put this in the Bambu Filament and Accessories category, but you are not using any BL translucent filaments in the model.

Your main filament is selected as BL PLA, yet in the photo it is clearly translucent.

What is going on?

Perhaps just some trickery on my end in calibration.
I am exclusively using bambulab translucent PLA, the darker blue version.

Without knowing which ones you actually used, I can only guess at further improvements, but, I imagine my earlier answer is still the best outcome.
