Travel Path Blocker?

Is there a way to block out an area of the build plate so the print head doesn’t travel across it?

I’ve got a rectangular model that I pause and insert a piece of plexiglass into. The print head makes a couple of passes diagonally across the area the plexiglass covers. Unfortunately, unless the plexiglass is perfectly flat, the nozzle will occasionally drag across the plexiglass scratching it. I’d love to figure out a way to keep the print head from crossing that gap. Anyone have any suggestions?

increase your z-hop distance in your slicer and increase the retraction distance so that it both lifts the head and avoids dropping globs of molten filament when it does. you risk some stringiness however.

Is it possible to change the z-hop in only one section of the print, like say with a modifier? I had that thought but couldn’t figure out how to do it for only the part where I run into issues. Doing it for the whole print isn’t really desirable.

im sure there’s a more graceful solution but my immediate thought is this:

if you have an ams you could just have the same filament in two slots but go to “material settings” and then tell it to increase the z-hop for the 2nd one

then use height-range modifiers to change to the 2nd filament slot (which again is the same filament) with the increased z-hop and then switch back to the original slot with the default z-hop
