Hello everyone! My school runs 2 Bambu P1S printers (BigMac and McChicken) for our robotics lab, on school wifi, but recently they switched it from 2.4GHz to 5GHz, and now both of our P1Ss are offline. Our robotics team was able to print with it using micro SD cards and filament from the AMS for a bit, but recently, one AMS decided to stop working. We couldn’t load filament from it to the P1S, regardless whether it was printing a loaded print file or not (as in simply being idle). Whenever we’d try to put in a new spool of Elegoo PLA or Sunlu/Overture PETG (our main 3d printing filaments), it’d roll in a good 15 cm or so (up until the filament reaches the filament hub), roll out a bit, and just sit there with blinking white LEDs (almost like a lil puppy!). The bambu wiki says that this means the AMS is idle, but doesn’t explain why it would be idle when I’ve set the P1S to load and wait for “filament from external spool.”
What have we tried?
- power cycling the bambu printer. This didn’t work- issue still persisted.
- Taking apart the AMS. I did a basic disassembly on the AMS (take out the internals, disconnected the PTFE tubes from everything but the feeder unit). There are no signs of wearing out (nothing terribly damage- all just tiny scratches), and I was able to pass filament fine with it powered off
- Connecting it to a phone hotspot on 2.4gHz via bambu handy, then loading the AMS on Bambu studio. This worked, but the AMS refused to feed the next day, when the hotspot + wifi connection was gone.
My robotics team heavily relies on these printers, so any tip in helping us solve this is greatly appreciated
