Trouble with extruded filament during unnecessary hot end heating

For some reason I am suddenly having a problem with unwanted filament extrusion during the bed leveling and startup process. The hotend is briefly heating up before it scans the bed and then again when it scans the first layer. I do not understand why the hotend would heat up since there is no desire to deliver filament during those processes. In each heating, although brief, filament is oozing and sticking to the hotend. Winds up dragging all over the part if it does not fail or fall off.

Is there a way to prevent those two heating events?

it is probably to melt filament on the tip, like any build up that could mess the bed leveling. Maybe is unnecesary on the X1 since there is no proper silicone wipe area.

I do not have that menu choice. If I click in the printer, it just brings up icons of printer choices. The tip heats, purges and then wipes. At that point the heat reduces and the head cleans on the extreme back edge of the plate. Then it moves to center and for some reason, heats up for a few seconds and then backs off. Then it bed levels.

After the first layer, it again heats up for a few seconds before scanning the first layer. Those two unnecessary heating cycles, however brief, are causing a little to a lot of filament to flow out. This is a new problem after months of flawless operation. I am thinking they messed with the profiles and screwed up a couple of code lines.
