Trouble with overhangs

So I found this design for a hanging storage for my 4 1/2 inch sanding and grinding discs and added a pegboard hook back to it.

Used e-sun PLA+ on my Bambu A1 and started the print job before going to bed.

6 hours later and this is what I have.

I set the sparse infill density at 20% to give it just a little bit more strength with the infill pattern set for gyroid.

Because I have had trouble with overhang with other prints, I reduced the overhang speeds to try to prevent exactly what happened and clicked the slow down by height box.

I enabled Support using the tree type with default style and threshold angle of 30 and Support critical regions only and remove small overhangs.

While I can still use this to store my sanding and grinding discs, obviously something is going wrong and I can’t tell this because of the settings or something wrong with my printer.

The filament was brand new out of the box so it couldn’t have collected any moisture before the print job.

Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated


New rolls are usually moist as the bags slow, but do not stop, moisture uptake.

But the print is probably challenging even when dried.
It does look like the supports failed well before they could do their job. That can be quite common.
Make tripple sure that the plate is clean, use two walls for the tree supports, maybe increase 1st layer temps (bed and nozzle) by 5°C.
I would also uncheck “Support critical regions only”.
Keep the “Slow down by height” but check the numbers and speed preview. Adjust depending on preview.

PS: A timelapse can help to diagnose if there is support curling just before collapse. That is more difficult to overcome, but possible. Self-dried filament is a must while adaptive layer height can help counter curling.

To me this also looks like one or both of: wet filament and/or no/incorrect pressure advance. Dry and redo that flow dynamics calibration. The result is a small number, make sure you transcribe it into the software with the right leading decimal.
